he had them out of the relegation zone but drifted back into it when the players reverted to type.

just like what happened at Watford

he's got form has Silva

No, what happened at Watford was he had his head turned - by us!

In the first few weeks there was no sign of his professionalism slipping but it did, and that's obviously something we should be wary of.

However, the players weren't happy with the lack of indecision from the club either. Plenty of articles state how they felt they were left in limbo by both the management and the people running the club, who then decided to sack Silva rather than stick with the guy they had tried so much to keep.

And it's not like Javi Gracia turned them around at all either. They ultimately finished lower than where they were when Silva went.

I'm not entirely convinced on Silva, no. But he's definitely the right type of manager we should be looking at.

I think we need to spend a lot.

Pickford
Coleman ? ? ?
?
Walcott Sigurdsson Lookman
? Tosun

At least 5 first team players are needed. £200m needs spending, IMO.

We did that last year and look how it turned out.

First and foremost, we need the right manager to get the most out of this squad.

From there we move forward.

Obviously, there's positions such as a CB, LB and back-up GK which are priorities - these must be signed.

Then, we have the possibility of another midfielder, but we'll likely need to move Besic and at least one of the others out first.

Then, potentially a striker, depending on what the new manager thinks of Niasse/DCL as back-up options.

And probably a winger, again depending on what the new manager thinks of Bolasie/Vlasic/Lookman.

The last thing we need to do is the scattergun approach of the second half of the window last year.

The first half of the window we were concise and had clear targets - that we got wrapped up quickly.

5-6 players in for me, with probably 10 out in total.

I feel like this point'd been beaten to the ground, but what if a team above us comes calling after we sign him? I dont want a manager capable of downing tools, I want a passionate, hard working manager.

I agree with the principle and that's why we'd have to be careful.

But... what decent, young manager who wants to be the best is not going to have his head turned by better clubs?

If they've got 'ambishunnn' - which is what all of our fans want us to have - then ultimately you can't have someone who is ever happy to be where they are until they're at the very top.

Look at Guardiola, who dumped Bayern off because he knew City were wanting him.

Going on your basis for a 'passionate, hard working' manager, then I'd go for someone like Dyche. But let's face it that's not going to happen - even though I am a big fan of his and I think he could take us forward. Another option would be Eddie Howe, but he reminds me of Martinez.

If Fonseca came to us from Shakhtar, it'd be exactly the same risk as with Silva anyway.

Brands had been linked with Everton for months and finally, on Wednesday the news broke that he had accepted the Premier League sides offer and will leave PSV after eight years at the club.

Brands said, “It was a very difficult decision to join Everton who are a great club because I was already at a great club here in PSV Eindhoven. It was tough to leave PSV Eindhoven after 8 years because I really enjoyed the people I worked with.

“Because of the interest from Everton I was offered a new contract by PSVEindhoven which I thought about seriously which did lead me to doubt my decision but Everton is a great challenge. I am the first from the Netherlands to be offered such a job in the Premier League which is special and Everton is a great chance for me.

“My 8 years at PSV Eindhoven are in my heart and the people too and I will now bid them a fond farewell. I am proud that we have once again managed to make people of Eindhoven proud

“In football, it is important to choose your direction which you do with scouts and managers but you must get the time and the chance to build something up and that is what I will be doing at Everton.

“Everton first contacted my two years ago via Mino Raiola and since that moment I maintained contact with the owner and chairman.

“Everton are planning to have a different model and they are trying to get Everton to reach a higher level in the coming years. I am not going to Everton to change their culture. We must keep the culture that Everton have. We just want to improve things.

“I spoke to Ronald Koeman in the times that I have seen him here at Eredivisie matches and we spoke about Everton. His opinion was that it will not be easy but that Everton are a great club with fantastic people.

“The Premier League is the biggest league in the world and not an easy league and the expectations are high.

“PSV Eindhoven did everything in their power to keep me and that shows appreciation and respect for me and it made my decision even more difficult and I plan to do my best at Everton.”

I don't think it'll be like last year. There were too many cooks in the kitchen with a say on signings. This year I think we'll have a proper structure. Shipping the deadwood out is just as important as bringing players in.

We should be aiming to have a squad of around 18-20 players who can make the first team.

Guardiola did not leave Bayern because of City! City tried to sign him when he went to Bayern - they even put that cringeworthy comment in his appointment announcement along the lines of “these were a continuation of the the discussions begun in 2013” as if they were anything other than his second choice.

His departure from Bayern was mutual. He took over a squad who had just won the CL and never came close to doing so again under his management.

Yeah, because we entrusted that money to Steven Walsh and Ronald "the Hamburglar" Koeman. Things just feel different this summer, as in we seem to have a clear direction with a clear hierarchy established at the club. Brands is the boss, he runs the football side of the club and the manager reports to him. He will know what's required, and his football knowledge stretches beyond WhoScored and Squawka.

Guardiola could easily have extended his contract at Bayern but knew City wanted him...
