Ushering Rooney and Baines our the door is good in terms of the wage bill but also for removing tactically problematic players. Rooney and Baines both demand first team football yet their lack of pace means we are normally forced into playing a certain way. As well as both of them have done with us at times it’s a good sign in my opinion that we are moving them on. Jags Williams Schneiderlin and Bolasie next please Marcel.

Cut to the bone and probably fall down the table. That cant be smart.

No wonder we're not looking at top managers for this job. Imagine telling them they have to cut wages back?!
Imagine telling them you have 37 players plus 5 new ones and half are pure crap.
Playing 21 a side makes the pitch a bit crowded

Dave you know i like ya man but come on, can you honestly say our squad doesn't need trimming down? I mean honestly? You are happy with the size of the squad and the players in it?

IMO the squads NEEDS trimming, it does not say we are going to pay low wages, just be smarter about it, and that is good business sense, which i thought you would appreciate.

Add to that Garbutt, Robles, Keane, ( just too slow ) Klassen, ( too slow ) and Mirallas.
That should allow us to buy in more quality and pace in those positions.
Eleven players out. Five first teamers plus a back up goalkeeper in. We have no European football this year ( some would argue we had none last year ) So the squad could do with trimming.

No doubt the squad needs reducing due to leftovers from 3 managers but we do not have enough(any ?) real quality so need to be careful as recruitment has been a shambles and trying to get PL standard players on cheap wages isn't going to happen.

Who would our highest earners be that are obvious exit choices anyway?

Jags
Rooney
Baines
Williams

Be useful for a list of rough player wages. I reckon hardly any of our biggest earners are even on peoples keep list.

The only players that it makes sense to retain are:

Pickford, Coleman, Holgate, Lookman Vlasic Tosun Walcott.

You could literally make a case for every other member of the squad going. Obviously the kids deserve longer if we think they’re good enough but there is a lot of senior players on high wages that if they went wouldn’t impact us at all.

Jags will 100% be here next season unless anything mad happens.... retirement send offs are being planned.

Rooney, Williams, Bolasie, and probably Sandro who is on something ridiculous for what we bought him for... he wants to leave so put him on that list.

Austerity Everton.

@MoutsGoat

Which way do you want it?

At almost all the nightmare takeovers at English clubs the thing that has sunk them has been an unsustainable wage bill that the owner wouldn’t subsidise. See Leeds and Portsmouth.

If Moshiri is the carpet bagger as you say then why is it bad that the club are looking to reduce the wage bill and squad size to a healthy level before further recruitment?

Not to mention the ones likely to go are players on massive contracts who either don’t contribute (Sandro) or are at the end of their usefulness? (Rooney, Williams)
