Arnt the highest earners at Everton also the oldest?
Rooney 125k
Bains must be on nearly 100
Jags
Williams

All on big wages
Schniederlin will be on north of 100k as will Siggurdson. Rooney 150k Baines aroun 80k jags and williams around 70k I would imagine Bolasie is about 70k as well as Sandro and probably Klaassen

We need to shed players to save on wages and because we don't want unhappy players at the club who will never get a game.

However, the last thing we need is another summer of huge upheavel with loads coming in and loads going out.

We need to sign no more than four players who go straight into the first team keep the best of what we have and try to find new clubs for the rest.

We should have learned from last summer that trying to fit too many new faces just doesn't work.

Baines 70k
Williams 75k
Bolasie 80k
Klaasen 100k
Schneiderlin 120k
Siggurdson 150k
Rooney 150k
Sandro 120k

No wonder they don’t want to leave.
the problem we have is some of the aging high earners replacements will expect big money too, if we want to sign quality that is. Say we let Baines go but try and sign Danny Rose as some papers have suggested, he's gonna want a serious wedge to come here.

The only problem with the high earners that we don't want is will they accept lower elsewhere or stay and see there contract out. I know some just want to play football but some will not want a pay cut.

And that’s who’s fault?

So we have gone from "We are f'in rich" to austerity without the intervening boom period. As has been said what worries me is getting shut of some of the players given the contracts they are on and how crap most are. Incoming players will know exactly what their predecessor was on due to agents, etc. So how do we save here ? Baines replacement is going to know what money he is on and will want more not less.

Austerity Everton.

@MoutsGoat

Well I have no problem with cutting a squad to a more viable number all competing for places. However, it sounds like the club are intent on cutting the total wage bill and rolling it back at a time when the direction at other clubs will continue in the opposite direction and they'll attract the better players rather than us.

What we're seeing is the post-Koeman cleaning up exercise. It must be done though whilst giving us a fighting chance on the pitch. Moshiri's choice of manager has ruined this club for a decade. I hope people dont forget that when they see us failing to compete this summer for the players we need.

Cut to the bone and probably fall down the table. That cant be smart.

No wonder we're not looking at top managers for this job. Imagine telling them they have to cut wages back?!

Is that what we want an Everton manager to deal with? Coming in and having to cut back to the bare bones and expect them to compete?

Writing on the wall here lads.

Never change, Dave.

Have to disagree with you there mate, I dont think its about rolling us back. I've seen nothing which suggests this at all.

We have been poorly managed in the Koeman/Walsh time and we have players who quite frankly are over paid for their performances... So I think this is a clean up, and removal of under performing/over paid players but I don't see it as rolling us back at all.
I agree we've been poorly managed. The governance of this club is shocking. We've gone from a period where we had value for money in the pre-Moshiri era to a point now where we are seeing an utter piss-take....the latter happening in a genuine attempt, I concede, to make a leap forward. There has to be a happy median we can get where cash is spent in a targeted way. However, we exist in an industry where clubs around us never mind the elite are capable of trumping us in the race for good players if we slip off the market rate.

In short: I think we're being prepared for a reduction in spending that will be sold as 'streamlining'.

Dave you know i like ya man but come on, can you honestly say our squad doesn't need trimming down? I mean honestly? You are happy with the size of the squad and the players in it?

IMO the squads NEEDS trimming, it does not say we are going to pay low wages, just be smarter about it, and that is good business sense, which i thought you would appreciate.
I have no concerns about cutting a squad as big as this down. It's what you do with the savings that matters.
