2019/20 Marcel Brands

The categoric reason for our dreadful performances I think 99% of fans think is the players. Meaning the players aren’t good enough. This guy has bought over ten players. Unlucky with gbamin but there are question marks over every player except Digne and richarlison. That’s not good enough. Not even close to being good enough. I’m being kind with “question marks” btw. It’s some of the worst football I’ve seen. Zero pace, energy, lack of ideas, creativity, severe lack of goals (if he buys one more player who an abysmal goal scoring record!) and lack of leaders.

You see I question how much was actually him and how much was Silva’s influence. I honestly doubt we’d have paid £28m on Iwobi with any other manager, we’d have given up on Zouma rather quickly (and I suspect that’s what Brands was trying to do anyway) and Rojo would not have been on the radar as we’d have had the target in

The only signings that I see that have his stamp on were Kean and Gbamin, and neither could have truly foreseen how either turned out back in August
So your defence of him is that he decided not to do his job at all, and delegate responsibility to somebody junior to him, making his own position completely unnecessary?

Where did you get that from what I said? It's not out the realm of possibility that Silva made clear what players he wanted, as is the right of a manager working with his DoF, he was still pushing for Zouma despite Chelsea repeatedly saying no

Because it’s what you said. You’re basically saying it’s silva’s fault, despite the fact there’s no evidence at all to back it up. It’s a bit mad to be honest, and I don’t believe there’s any truth to it at all, but if there was, it would just mean brands hadn’t done his job.

Sigh, I wasn't blaming Silva solely, but he was the one insistent on getting Zouma back no matter what, Chelsea offered us Tomori instead (which was pulled because Luiz wanted to go to Arsenal) and Brands had a back up lined up from Torino plus there was the deadline day move for Rojo which was pulled after United decided they wanted a transfer fee rather than loaning him. So either Brands blew it or his manager blocked his business by not being on the same page

I don’t think there’s any verified evidence of that is there? It’s like you’ve just decided that some vague rumours are facts because they fit with what you want to believe. It might be right like, but it just seems a bit mad to assume it is, because it’s not the most logical conclusion to come to by a long shot.

Basically all we know is that we wanted a new centre half and chased one all summer, only for it to turn out the one we were trying to push down the pecking order was actually the best one we had.

We definitely were offered Tomori, I believe it was pretty much a done deal then it had to be shelved because of the Luiz situation. We'll never know the true story of why we never got a CB in but honestly I don't think anyone expected Mason to turn out to be what we needed so well

Wolves have came up from the Championship and finished ahead of us straight away (and will again this season).

Sheffield United have come up from the Championship and will finish above us straight away.

Then you add the likes of Burnley and Leicester into the mix.

All in this fella’s time here. The biggest myth in our history is that this fella was the one to fix us post-Walsh.

All that points to a lack of leadership from Brands. He is not only Director of football, he is also on the board as director of silly walks or whatever made up title they give him.
So why is he kowtowing to the manager and not only does he not get the centre half he wants, he ends up due to mismanagement getting nobody.
He owes Holgate a huge drink that he stepped up this year
