Don’t like it, so it’s a no from me I’m afraid.

Pity he did well in the window.

This is all wrong.
Maybe he’s letting clubs know if we put in a bid then that’s it that’s the bid
He admitted we paid over the odds for Rico BUT ONLY because of the bad blood between the clubs.
The same way we walked away from Tierney
In other words
“ Just because we have Usmanovs money we won’t be screwed on price and I’m letting you all know in advance “

I remember watching the Monchi interview with regards to the Malcom fiasco, I thought it was interesting to hear his thoughts, so it definitely isn't unique that our dof done this.

It was great to get such an insight into the dealings, thought he came across well and can't see an issue with it myself.

Caution will always be there but at least we seem to have a bit of basic direction that we want to go, it hasn't felt like that for quite a while.
Maybe A FOF talking to the press is common in Europe when the circumstances necessitate it
English clubs are not totally au fait with the proper role of a true DOF

Just to confirm, if things go wrong are we absolving Brands of all blame because he’s just a pen pusher doing a menial office job and placing it on Silva because he’s the big boss?
Rightly or wrongly, the manager (or coach) does get the blame and the sack.
Is that unfair? Maybe.
But Chelsea have had an pretty much an unlimited budget and DoFs who've identified fabulous talent. And the coaches still ****ed it up. So they probably should take the lion's share of the blame.
(I find it eye-popping that Chelsea had De Bruyne and Salah on their books and sold them).

I have no doubt he is which is why I asked the question, it just strikes me that this is an odd thing for a DOF to do and questioning the motivation behind it. Why cultivate a media profile?
Because its really really really basic PR. There WILL be a media narrative about how the club works. So either he can control that, or the worst common denominator from the media will control that.

Thats so basic I ASSUMED everyone understood that......

I think both @Neiler and myself have underlined that the work done so far seems fine.

The bone of contention is more to do with the way Brands is positioning and presenting himself.

I believe in a strict hierarchy at a club in terms of the playing side: at the top is the manager and then come the players. The DoF (if we have to have one at all) comes after that and just ahead of the other senior first team coaches.

That's the way it has to be. That's because if you have dual control players (who dont need much invitation to swing the lead or down tools) can sniff out any hint of a power struggle and start to play upon it.

In short: thanks for your work this summer Mr Brands, but now you can get back behind your desk and leave the public relations side of the club to Marco Silva.
Nope.

“I was very impressed because I had really great support from the people inside the club," Brands told the ECHO.

“There were six people in the meeting room – legal, finance for example – David (Harrison) was in Barcelona, Jonathan (Williams) was here, I had Bill on the phone constantly and we were working very hard with all of them.

“I could not have done it alone and I was very impressed by the support of the people."

That defo sounds like a man with a massive ego.

"Everton’s director of football, who confirmed the club’s interest in the Celtic full-back Kieran Tierney "

There in black and white

We wanted him

Simple as

Very similar article in the Daily Mail but it went a bit further than, Brands talked of starting and his relationship with Moshiri. Also of trying to move some players on before the window shuts.

For me the bottom line is we have got the right man on board at our club.

You're aware that by going to the trouble of finding that you've already lost right?
