I need a lie down lol
I'm liking Brands more and more, he seems honest and has realistic long term goals for the club, and that once the transfer window shut he started working with the acadamy hopefully he will get it right as we seem to have been signing "one for the future" for about 20 years now with very few making it to the first team. Apparently he also told Moshiri that if he was expecting success this year then he wouldn't come to the club as its going to take longer, i hope the fans will realise this too and not start turning on everyone in the event of a few bad results.
i wonder will Unsworth Ferguson Etc hold on to their jobs now this lad is in charge
Maybe he will look at the academy and wonder why very few are making it to the first team
He might bring in new coaches all across the board , ones who will work to his philosophy

Until about a month ago I though Dave's username was pronounced like Dalek with a V.

Instead of Dave K

Would have fit the character perfectly.

It is, actually, but he’s been running a long standing misinformation campaign to spin his image in a positive light, so don’t be swayed from your initial (and correct) understanding

I think both @Neiler and myself have underlined that the work done so far seems fine.

The bone of contention is more to do with the way Brands is positioning and presenting himself.

I believe in a strict hierarchy at a club in terms of the playing side: at the top is the manager and then come the players. The DoF (if we have to have one at all) comes after that and just ahead of the other senior first team coaches.

That's the way it has to be. That's because if you have dual control players (who dont need much invitation to swing the lead or down tools) can sniff out any hint of a power struggle and start to play upon it.

In short: thanks for your work this summer Mr Brands, but now you can get back behind your desk and leave the public relations side of the club to Marco Silva.
Doesn’t work that way Dave
The DOF is in charge of all football related activities.
He picks the manager , has to sign off on the managers back room staff , he oversees the U23 s and academy teams and hires those coaches
He hired the scouts and takes their recommendations on board and goes through them
The manager tells him I need ( say a CB) that has these attributes etc
The manager may give a list of preferences or even a specific player but if the DOF doesn’t agree with his choice then the player doesn’t get signed
The manager coaches , trains and picks the Match day squad, tactics and first 11 and that’s about it

“I was very impressed because I had really great support from the people inside the club," Brands told the ECHO.

“There were six people in the meeting room – legal, finance for example – David (Harrison) was in Barcelona, Jonathan (Williams) was here, I had Bill on the phone constantly and we were working very hard with all of them.

“I could not have done it alone and I was very impressed by the support of the people."

That defo sounds like a man with a massive ego.

We need to bring back Steve Walsh......

To get Williams, Mirallas, Rooney, Klaassen, Garbutt, Vlasic, Mori and probably Besic, Bolasie and Martina off the books with only Vlasic likely to ever play for us again, and get the likes of Digne, Mina, Bernard, Richarlison through the door on permanent deals and Zouma and Gomes on loans is absolutely remarkable work tbh, all in one pre-season too.

The fella needs to be given a UK passport and then receive a Knighthood for his work.

I’m fully aware we want him.
What I’m trying to say is that it will never be talk in depth in public on how we conduct the approach. Many people will only believe after the full story is blown out in public in order to believe 100%. We don’t need to go that far. Just a little comment in the report is enough to convince.
I think the reason Tierney was mentioned was to inform other clubs that if you play hardball , we have options and we WILL walk away if the deal doesn’t suit

That's never felt right due to my old school sensibilities, but hey-ho I guess everyone has to use that model now
The days of Ferguson and Wenger building a dynasty are over
Managers don’t stay 10/15/20 yrs st clubs every year
So the club needs a strategy that all managers are comfortable with and there is no major squad upheaval every time a manager leaves
