That's not proof is it though? I'm not doubting your credibility, I just dont see it as evidence. I got into this sort of stuff about two weeks ago with another poster who seemed to take umbrage that I didn't accept as gospel what he was saying.

It's simple for me: if it has no credible documentary evidence, it's hearsay.

I don't expect you to take it as gospel mate. Each to their own. Opinions are what makes a forum

That just proves that it can and cant be done. My question: if Brands is the golden boy - why has he such a limited record of shifting out?

You have kinda answered yourself there mate.

But he has shifted players out. He just hasnt been able to get many fees for them.

Which is understandable. I do get that. Wages are a stumbling blcok in some cases.

But this is my point: let's stop the adulation; he's doing a decent job overall; keep the evaluation of him real and grounded.

Agreed that he should be selling players instead of the constant loans, but considering the crazy deals given to our players by Martinez, Koeman and Sam, is there much he can really do?

I aint idolising him. Been impressed with his incomings, anyone who isnt is blind, but accept he is hamstrung in getting bodies shifted for real pounds.

Thats why I said earlier that to judge him fairly, see what he gets when when he shifts players he has signed. Then I hope we will see his true value.

Because to slam him at this point is akin to slamming the RM new DOF, (if they have a new one, no idea), for not getting coin in for Bale.

I'm comparing them to all those out on loan.

Please dont shift the goalposts.
You are the one shifting the goal posts. Who else is out on loan that we should have sold?

Sandro out on loan makes sense. His value will never be lower. He wasn't that bad last year, just needs to play more in a different side.

Holding him accountable for horrible, awful deals on average players isn't fair. These guys can sit here and collect a way-too-high salary. The only motivation for some to leave may be Euro 2020, like Cillesen from Barca.

....good that you’re now ‘getting’ how difficult it is to shift some of the deadwood for fees. You’re right in being cautious and managing expectation in any assessment of Brands, although he’s done fine to this point and the signs are encouraging.

Was always going to be difficult probably more difficult than getting the right players scouted and brought in .
Will take at least two more transfer windows to sort

I see Dave is on his usual wind up and wont accept anything that isn't in line with his agenda.

You you could have the best DOF in the world and they would struggle to get the dross out the door he was saddled with. Typical that a certain person has an agenda and cant see what is happening is the best under the circumstances.

I simply accept that it's a fait accompli when a crap player is on a high wage that you cant shift them out. It's an absurd position. Cleverley was on £50K pw at Everton and had three years to run on th 5 year contract he signed. We shifted him to Watford for £8M.

If Brands is the DoF he's cracked up to be, he matches work like that.

There that reads a bit better.
