I keep hearing about our centre back situation being a mess, but we do have two centre backs playing on the team and with one on the bench. Are our centre backs good enough is a different argument I think.
Man City have one fit centre back... I can only imagine what would be said if we were in that situation.
As far as I know Gbamin is rated higher as a centre back than as a midfielder and hopefully he will be back in about four weeks, that would give us four players who could play in that position.

Regarding Moise Kean, I think playing him wide as he settles into the club and the league is sensible and he looks more effective there at the moment than what I have seen of him as a centre forward. I think we may see a lot of his goals being scored as he comes in from wide positions. I thought he looked very lively against City and far more comfortable than he did the previous week.

I think Iwobi looks decent already, Richarlison we already know about and in a different formation I think Tom Davies could do well.

I think there is a lot of potential already in the squad, the manager needs to find a way to harness it to the best effect.
Gbamin has definitely been bought as a midfielder. He said it, Silva said it, and the huge majority of his appearances have been in that position. If he ends up playing centre half it will just be further evidence that we messed up, not justification.

City had a midfielder playing centre back against us, Gbamin has play quite a bit of football as a centre back.
I do agree with you thay he has been signed as a midfielder but I would like to see the day when our team was as fluid as the better teams are at the moment.

And most City fans would argue that not getting another centre half in was a massive error in judgement, although the way they play means that they'll get away with it in 90% of league games, in a way that we certainly won't. I'm not sure we should judge the success of our transfers on whether other teams have made the same mistakes as us. I don't think Gbamin's played that much at centre half actually, i'm sure I read in the summer it was only about 10 games while he was at Mainz.

Good grief.

City will probably lose the league season because of one reason. - they have allowed their centre half position to decline.

Everton will underperform this season for several reasons - but I would be surprised if allowing the centre half position to decline isnt the main one.

We allowed out best striker to leave 2 years ago. We have not remotely replaced him and we have not progressed since.

We allowed our best centre mid to leave in the summer and almost certainly have not replaced him - we have declined this season.

Most often football is simple. The better teams most often win. The best team in the league almost always wins it. The weakest 3 teams almost always get relegated.
