2019/20 Marcel Brands

Bernard - no end product
Iwobi - nothing else needs to be said
Mina - a CB who cant keep pace with attackers
Delph - a fake hardman never out of the treatment room
Gbamin - a no mark from a no mark league
Kean - utterly hopeless, a striker that never strikes
Gomes - decent, but not a consistent performer
Richarlison - decent but inconsistent (a Silva player at Watford and almost certainly not down to Brands in any case)

Digne - the only class player he's bought

It is a pitiful haul of inadequacy. £250M for THAT.

Can there really be anyone making a case for Brands' purchases, much less retaining him?

....much better than the list that includes Bolasie, Sandro, Keane, Klaassen, Tosun, Martina et al, many of whom continue to be millstones around the clubs finances.

Another way of looking at the Brands signings is to consider their resale value. If you say they cost £250m, we might get a similar amount for them now.

I don't agree Dave. We have no midfield worth talking about. Brands did not sign Schneiderlin or Sigurdsson and they are our biggest problems .
The players you mentioned as being useless are actually decent players but every team depends on it's midfield and at present we don't have one.
Do you also wish to blame Brands for the leg break that has ruled out Gomes or the injury that affected Gbamin after just his second game ?
Of the players you criticised above 4 were missing through injury and I simply don't agree with you about most of them or at least not until they have had a chance to play with a proper midfield which could have been Gbamin and Gomes.

"Much better"?

Not to me they're not.

£250M spent by Brands, and you offer a coupe of injuries as mitigating factors in defending him?

Another coach/manager/DoF could have used half that amount to get better quality in. Even the free signing like Bernard came with a massive wage attached.

He's ridiculous - a big ridiculous Dutch helmet.

Out of all of them including Digne, not one of them has any desire/fight or leadership skills
Again a fault of Brands as this was glaringly obvious

Well its not 250m for a start.

Bernard free
Digne 18m
Iwobi 27m
Mina 27m
Delph 8m
Gbamin 23m
Kean 27m
Gomes 22m
Rico 35m

187m

Ancelotti does not sign players, he actively wants a DoF in position or someone who deals with transfers because he point blank refuses to talk to agents. Brands is needed.
Sure you need someone to do the negotiation - no issue - but if we have one of the greatest managers ever we don't need Brands to identify the players to buy.

Ancelotti does not get involved in transfers, he just doesn't. He says he has enough to do with the team,he will not talk to agents. Therefore we need a middle man, that is Brands because that's his job.

I already stated above that hopefullt Ancelotti tells him who he wants and Brands does the negotiations, rather than the complete mess we have had these 3 years.

Comparing them with those signed by Walsh just makes Brands less bad - hardly a great recommendation

It CAN be Brands but then again it could be any half competant negotiator.

Ergo you don't need the Dutchman with what is believed to be a huge salary and place on the board.
