Doucoure won the game today.

Brands signed him.
You must understand that in davek's world, there are no shades of grey or nuances - it's always 100% black and white. Jeremy Corbyn, Rebecca Long-Bailey, Roberto Martinez = faultless saints. Brands, Corbyn, Moyes = wrong in every single thing they've ever done in their lives.

He desperately needs to address the lack of options in forward areas for me. We lack pace without Richy. We lack a forward who can play up front ok his own without Dom. Tosun cannot fulfill the role because he lacks pace and composure to hold onto the ball, even if he is a decent finisher. Also in midfield we still lack options creativity and energy below Allan and Doucoute. You need players with pace and physicality in the modern game.

Also with the pace I feel we don’t use Dom pace as good as we should. He is the fastest player at the club, and I would say he probably quicker then any Defender in the league bar a few. One of them being Godfrey. We need a right winger with better pace then move James inside, and ensure we have penetrating runs from the front 3. Gets the opposition defence turned and back tracking, which creates space for James to do what he does best. Will also help with doucoure making those powerful runs into the box.

Agree right forward/ wing with pace would make such a difference seems we won't do anything tiil the summer though..

Surely Everton wanting Doucoure under one manager and the signing him under another manager highlights the common denominator (Brands) is who signed him.

The common line running through this is Brands.
No, the common denominator is that the manager's on both occassions wanted him.

Silva had him at Watford and therefore he was the impetus behind Everton's interest; Doucoure stated that he came to Everton because of Ancelotti.

Ha. It’s official. Dave likes Doucoure, so has declared him an Ancelotti (or Silva) signing.

Have you made a call on Godfrey yet, as I’ve been wondering who signed him?

Can we just get away from this 'who signed him' stuff?

Both DoF and manager have to sign off on a player before we make a move.

There's a few ways that it works, but in the main...

1. Ancelotti, Brands, the coaches etc, identify an area they want to strengthen. Steinsson is in charge of the scouting department (for lack of a better term) and the network to go out and find the players for the positions that need filling. Whether young or old, or whatever. They then return with a list of suitable players to Brands, who will of course run the rule over them. It'll be whittled down and then, in conjunction with Ancelotti, decided on which players to move for. This happened with Godfrey.

2. Ancelotti wants a particular player (James, Allan, Hojbjerg). We moved for those players. Let's say Ancelotti wants Isco, then we'll move for Isco. Obviously, in all cases it depends if the moves are feasible.

Brands' chief role is basically to bring it all together, and also be the conduit between the board and recruitment team. He's also responsible for setting out the academy structure which has now been done.

Trust me, I don't think Brands has acted decisively enough and I feel he has left us short - because ultimately he is the one who is responsible - but this 'x was a Carlo signing' or 'y was a Brands signing', is nonsense.

Doucoure was a player both Silva and Brands wanted. Carlo wanted a box-to-box midfielder and Brands will have said 'well, we've scouted Doucoure extensively and here's what he can offer'. Carlo signed off on it and they went and did the deal.
