Lack of depth... injuries etc.
Come May let’s discuss this but this already reeks of a typical Everton missed opportunity in the making.... and if you’re going to ask why etc. See every other January when were in a solid position.
This feels a lot different to other years though, we’re winning games when hampered by injuries

We’ve had Januarys where we’ve bought wisely, like Arteta in 2005, Jelavic in 2012 but we’ve also wasted money in January like Beattie in 05, Schneiderlin in 2017 and Walcott and Tosun the year after

I think it’s a startling ratio myself. I know everyone just wants rid and wallpaper over the cracks, but it’s all systemic to the welfare of the club and part of Brands role.

Lads will and have made their own minds up on how much of a new broom Lee way they want to give him on outs.

He’s not great for me on that score.
The thing that gets me is how some people think this transfer business is a snap. I'm just surprised no top-flight club has availed itself of their services.

I dont recall many players we have let go over the last few years were people were really unhappy with the price.

We have sold quite well for me.

But people look at figures like 100m for 74 players and consider us getting spanked.

According to transfermarkt we've sold/loaned/released 56 players in Brands' tenure with some being multiple departures (Lookman, Onyekuru etc.) which means at the very last 21 of the 74 are from the youth sides.

Some notable sales:

Klaassen: Bought for £24m under Walsh, sold for £12m after being one of the worst players I've ever seen in the PL.
Onyekuru: Bought for £7m under Walsh, loaned out twice then sold for £12m after never playing for us.
RFM: Bought for £12m, sold for £8m.
Browning: Sold for £4m pure profit.
Gana: Bought for £7m, sold for £30m.
Lookman: Bought for £8m, loaned out once (£0.5m) then sold for £16M + bonuses.
Vlasic: Bought for £9m, loaned out once, sold for £15m.
McCarthy: Bought for £14m, sold for £3m after basically being unable to run.
Schneiderlin: Bought for £20m under Walsh, sold for £2m and heavy wages off the book for a nothing player.
Dowell: Sold for £2m pure profit.

Plethora of free transfers gone we thought we'd never see leave: Sandro, Mirallas, Garbutt, Rooney, Big Ash, Stek etc.

Think he's done alright getting what he's got for some of that tosh.

Any word on a new deal?

Doesn't appear to be and some have reported him already talking in the past tense, although I haven't seen his quote transcribed directly and anyhow being a second language might also account for this if true.

If he does go then we might be back at square one. Sure we can get decent players while Ancelotti is here but it might be messy and lead to serious problems thereafter. Let's hope he stays.

Would have liked to see us make a couple of moves in this window but I do understand that it may be complicated with everything that’s going on and we’re doing ok so it’s not a massive drama. Letting tosun, Bernard etc go and still not bringing anyone in would be very, very bad though. I’m not sure I can find any way to get on board with that, and if it happens and we fall away he’ll have to take some serious flak for it.
