I don't get the "oh well, he's taking a rare window off"

He's lazy with the January window. He doesn't try to improve the team and hasn't since he's been here. The excuse that there isn't any value in January is repeated ad nauseam by his fans here.

We've never had a chance in the Premier League era to to win it all like we have this year. We snuck 4th by the skin of our teeth winning 1-0 and losing too often.

But yeah. Let's just pay someone to for their job for 3 months a year. Great shouts.

Would have liked to see us make a couple of moves in this window but I do understand that it may be complicated with everything that’s going on and we’re doing ok so it’s not a massive drama. Letting tosun, Bernard etc go and still not bringing anyone in would be very, very bad though. I’m not sure I can find any way to get on board with that, and if it happens and we fall away he’ll have to take some serious flak for it.
Baring in mind that I do think we could do with an another attacking option, I'm not sure losing Bernard or Tosun would be that difficult to cope with.

Just like Walcott and Kean in the summer, neither are very good for us and lets be honest they wouldn't be missed.

Up top we have DCL, Rico and Simms at a push, now yes, Rico plays wide and Simms will probably never play for us, but they are options and if I'm honest I could name 3 or 4 from the squad I would play before Tosun and considering Carlo played Iceland there, I reckon he agrees.

Bernie plays wide, we have Iwobi, Rico, Hamez, Gordon, DCL(LOL), Digne, Niels, hell even Iceland who could all play there.

So if we can get Bernie and Tosun off the wage bill and save around 230k a week, I cant say I would be deeply upset.

But again, in case it got forgotten, I would like to see another attacking option added, but given our massive losses and the impact of Corona I can see the reasons why we might not.

Lazy?

Bit of a strange thing to say really.

Do you think he just thinks "nar mate swerve that window, I'm off to the Maldives"

He's brought in one youth player in January in 3 years. That's it. He's repeatedly said "I don't like January" and he keeps on doing nothing.

So if someone doesn't do their job, at all, in 3 years in a row, what would your call that? Being judicious?

I mean you make the joke "you think he's off to the Maldives" but, seriously, what does he do in one of the two windows he is meant to do anything?

I get that. If we could bring in one good player I’d happily lose both those 2 in a heartbeat. With no replacement though, I wouldn’t be comfortable at all. Bernard has made the match day squad in every single game this season. He’s not had a big impact by any means, but he’s been used as an option - as has tosun - and so losing them would clearly weaken the squad. I think we’re one short in attack as it is, I just think losing 2 more options when in the position we’re in would be tempting fate a little too much for my liking. It’s one of those risks where it’s fine if you get away with it but if something happened to DCL or richarlison then you are going to get some serious heat for leaving yourself with nothing in reserve.

And if somebody kept their job in that period, would you say their employer respected and agreed with their assessment that there is no value in Winter windows? Considering the last time the owner agreed to a Winter transfer he ended up spending 100m in transfer fees and wages to Theo Walcott and Cenk Tosun?

And before you come back with it, yes, I'm very aware that there is some value in Winter Windows and I'm almost certain if we can find it, we will take it.

As I said, would love an attacking option for sure, think it would give us a good boost.

But think we need to get lucky with some offloading first.

If the owner is convinced that Brands is meant to be the right person than getting burned by an imbecile previously shouldn't have any bearing on what happens going forward, no?

I know im a broken record, but I'm not sure people understand the impact Corona is having, across the whole league.

But I know that if Carlo or Brands want somebody, Mosh would find the dough.

People have done nothing but have a pop at Brands over "No transfers", but hes not, as people keep telling me, hes not in sole charge of transfers at this club.

Its a decision that will be made by Carlo, Mosh, Brands and anybody else with a say.

You know this is basically our one shot tho. You know we're extremely likely to lose Richarlison and maybe DCL if we don't get Europe. You know their sales basically cover any FFP issue we have just like you know Champions League basically covers that as well. I don't want to say it's a no-lose position but it's basically the opposite of damned if you do.

Might be classed as doing his job well by bringing in players during the cheaper summer window and giving them a pre-season to fit in?

We can buy but if they don't fit in long term you have probably paid over the odds and left with someone on a well paid, long contract that you will find difficult to shift. This is what got us into a complete mess in the first place under Walsh with a scattergun approach. Most teams want to keep their best players and that is what we should now be aiming at the capture, so a loan isn't likely to cut it.

Everyone knows we need a RB and another CF but buying for the sake of buying isn't always the answer. Yes you could get lucky and we are propelled to greater heights but we could also be left with a turkey and more likely than not it will be the latter.

Let's be honest, just because he's said that tonight doesn't in any way mean we won't sign somebody this window.

In fact, I'm absolutely sure he and Carlo know exactly what we need (as they did last window) and will have identified players they want to sign.

Can't do anything about it if those players won't be sold this window - we wouldn't sell our best players either now if somebody wanted them.

It wouldn't make sense to drop down our list and go for B-grade players and offer them 3-year deals just because we can't get our top priorities right now.

They will know we have a great chance for CL this season and will try to get what we need. I've got my fingers crossed.

You say this is our one shot, like it's do or die. We will not realistically have considered winning the league as our primary injective going into the season, and Carlo has suggested as much. But we are where we are because we have been decent, even in the face if some injuries. But we are still 1 of several teams in a large chasing pack. Its not the same as the year Leicester won it, out in front and the team to beat. The window could present us with an opportunity to strengthen, yes, and I genuinely believe that if Carlo and Marco have the chance to improve us by bringing someone in at the right price then it will happen.

But what they won't do, is spend wrecklessly less than halfway through the season on what is essentially an outsider in a 7 horse race, so much so that it could impact us in the next stage of our development plan come the summer.

Maybe if we were 6 points clear with teams around us faltering, but that's not the case.

Would it be lovely? Damn right it would, but as good as we have been at times, we have also struggled in periods as well. We are not there yet, and honestly, outside of an amazing, unlikely run of form and a complete capitulation from the media darlings, it's more hopeful than it is realistic.

I still maintain, the right player, at the right price, a deal is done. But I'm fairly sure we won't foolishly go all in on a long shot, and nor should we.
