Brands up to now has been a bit like the Curate’s Egg, good in parts. I think we must accept the fact that there is not a cat in hell’s chance that Moshiri will not have a DOF in place. This being the case, it makes sense to keep Brands, as the whole reason, as I understand it, for having a DOF is to provide continuity in the event of managers coming and going, as they inevitably do. So, if we let Brands go, the whole process has to begin again and we are 3 years further away from developing a ‘club identity’ which, ideally, goes right through our teams from the academy to the first team.
Hopefully Brands, at the beginning of his tenure will have sat down with Moshiri and they will have agreed a plan for where and how they see the club developing. If he is offered a new deal and signs it, we can only assume that both parties are pleased with the way this is progressing.
From a personal point of view I don’t think Brands is a clown, nor do I think he is this mythical architect and I still find it difficult to understand the Iwobi signing, 28 million, if that’s what it was, was way too much for a player with a very limited skill set.
