I hope he has spent this year trying to piece together a functioning side, forget superstars, we need a TEAM, a functioning team can be just as effective and if you can then chuck a James in the mix for your bit of magic, I think it's the way to go. Stop buying names and buy a team. I know I know why hasn't marcel thought of that lol

Do wonder if the owners are waiting on the finishing position this season before deciding on a new deal or not.

Very odd his deal ends in 2 months and still no news.

I dont even think recruitment would be affected if he was punted and a replacement not found right away as I assume Carlo would just sign a few of his old boys / players he likes in the interim period.

If by "doing a great" job we mean a middle aged man wearing ripped at the knee jeans who squanders £250m on utter car crash signings, then yes, he's a
roaring success.
Richarlison, Branthwaite, Godfrey, Nkonkou,Doucoure,Digne that spring immediately to mind would suggest that as you say he has been a success.

But, I would urge a word of caution Dave because there have been some signings which have not been as good.

I know we will probably make a profit on Kean,Mina and Bernard if they are to be sold but I believe, as everyone foes, that we would lose substantially on Iwobi.

Further Dave. I have chosen to give the credit for Signing JR and Allan to Ancelotti but certainly Brands will have had a role to play

But, asI type this Dave I think you are more right than wrong in saying what a success he is.

All 3 of those over rated and not yet proven anything in fairness.

Godfrey has potential and has done well but the other two haven't done anything to suggest they are bargain signings at this stage.

Branthwaite, Nkonkou have done nothing so far. Didnt cost a lot of money. Richarlison was Silvas idea i think. Doucoure is only average. Digne (I cant defend for toffee) is ok but after a good first season has only been a bit over average. If thats what you get for 300 m Im sure i can do the job for a tenth of the price. You forget all the crap he bought? Iwobi, Bernard, Delph... A guy like Luis Campos, the guy who did bring Rodriguez to Europe, (without a job after Gérard Lopes had to sell Lille) would be the way forward. Did bring Porto, Monaco, Lille millions in transfer money...

If he signs a new deal I'll be astonished as this summer window aside he's been average to poor with his signings and even then James and Allan were largely brought in by Carlo same as Silva would have played a huge hand in Richarlison coming in.

I only really fully credit him with Doucoure, Godfrey and Digne as being his good signings.

Iwobi
Delph
Sidibe
Lossl
Gbamin
Kean
Slowmes

He's signed as many duds as Walsh did.

How much did he spend on his jeans? His fashion sense seems important to you so would like to know if he has overspent on them. Maybe we could get a list of his clothing expenses and what he looks like in them and then we can maybe have a good debate on him and his wardrobe.

In terms of the main debate, as a club we have improved personnel, that is all that matters. The hatred for one cog in the transfer machine is not how we should be debating this. Yes, he is overall responsible for all signings and the academy, as I understand his role but to stand him out as the only one responsible for bad signings is not necessarily the best way to look at the club as a whole. There will more than likely be nuances to his responsibilities that mean he is not 100% responsible for certain aspects/players.

My belief is that mistakes have been made and mistakes will continue to be made, overall though the club is slowly but surely getting to some solid ground regarding playing staff.

Branthwaite is 18 ,Nkonkou is 19.

I don't think anyone can say how good they are going to be when they hit their peak. We can say they are exactly the type of signing that Brands was brought to the club to make

Anybody saying that Godfrey is comparable to urine Ferdinand or Maldini is certainly over eating the player.

Anybody arguing that he is in the top three or four defenders signed by Premiership clubs this season would have a strong argument to make abs certainly you would have people like Rio Ferdinand that you could ask to make that case for you.

Godfrey in the last few months, in my opinion, has added tens of millions to his value.

The bottom line is that we are no further forward now after 3 years of him than when he arrived.

Managers have to walk the plank for records like that at this club and so should he.

The owners need to punt him.

Very droll.

Which is exactly why I always find it very odd that people insist on including them in the lists of good signings. They might be absolutely brilliant signings, but at this moment in time there doesn't seem to be any justification in using them as positives.
