Unless they aren't dross wages. My point is more or less that we don't know that yet. We can only judge that one retrospectively. We can make an informed guess, but we don't actually know.

Now, if you want to have a go at him for Iwobi, that's extremely fair. Gomes is debatable, in terms of the information available. Delph was bad, but I'll cop to having been in the majority thinking that one was a good dice roll. The rest seem like decent buys, given the available information and options at the time.

If Godfrey doubles his value as an incoming, or if Branthwaite turns into a player, that more or less pays for Brands and the gambles. He needs another major hit to pay for Iwobi.

Is he crushing it? No. Is he destroying the club? Probably not, in my estimation.

I'm not against Brands as DoF in control but whatever his role is the last few years have been a mix of decent signings and then some, like the 3 we're about to make, that I just don't believe are his signings.

Whoever is in charge of bringing an Everton squad together I can easily think of better options is all I was saying.

Right. @TheBigIguana made that last point to me the other night. He isn't opposed to the gambles. He's opposed to the specific choices of players.

I think that's fair.

Whether they're a punt or a high price signing they still have to be decent players otherwise what's the point.

If the player outperforms the expected return on investment because the player happens to fit well with the other Lego pieces at the club, we effectively make money as translated into points tally and/or sell-on value. If they don't, we effectively lose money by buying the player.

The Koeman/Walsh/Allardyce returns are awful. Just ghastly. Brands appears to be doing OK.

I tend to point the finger at other issues around the club as a consequence. I'm merely arguing that Brands appears to be a competent enough technician at what he does. Whether or not he ends up having been a good investment probably will to take a couple more years to sort out.

Surely Brands is here now and we all have to get behind him for the good of the club. He's literally just signed a new contract you know. He's not going anywhere, might as well get behind him (I believe that is the bland slogan that were all supposed to unite behind).
He's had his support. He failed.

Benitez is still to be tried and tested here.

Fans have supported him mate , he wasn’t here long before he was put on a high pedestal by some which I thought was a bit bizarre considering he hasn’t built a successful side or anything like that . I get being supportive of someone , he didn’t deserve that such high praise IMO.

For me he’s flattered to deceive and to try balance it in his defence we don’t know the sort of discussions he’s had at board level or what’s went on in the decision making. We can only go by what we know.

I still say the club needs a reboot from the top before we can seriously start to take steps to be considered relevant at the highest levels .

Mate, I want Brands out, he's useless, I was just rattling Dave's cage.
