Utterly pointless this fella if we are going to just buy RB's favoured players. It looks even worse this summer, at least with Carlo he got to pick a few such as Godfrey, Doucoure, Nkoukou, now we are linked with Rondon and Longstaff... Jesus...

We bought Allan and James last summer. He's said before that he's willing to accept suggestions from the manager, but he needs to sign off on them. Equally he won't buy a player the manager doesn't want.

Ok, Rondon and Longstaff aren't the level that Allan and James have reached, but one would be a free (hopefully) short term fix, the other would be a presumably inexpensive punt on a player who at one time was highly rated.

EDIT - The point is he has to sign off the recruitment whether the suggestions are driven by the manager or by the scouting department, ultimately he's responsible either way and nobody should ever lose sight of that.

Not really had an opinion on him up until now has he's been a bit hit and miss, but for the past 2 seasons what exactly is he getting paid for?

Our signings last season where Carlo requests, we've still not signed a RB winger and cm that we so desperately need and the season starts in a few days.

Just don't get what he's doing

….but the veto responsibility is only empowered if he uses it. As you say, Benitez also has the power of veto so it could come to a situation where the Manager says no to virtually every DoF recommendation.

I’m not aware of any situation where Brands has turned a Managerial suggestion down, yet we hear Benitez wont endorse the likes of Dumfries.

The process is really a bit daft. The position of DoF is weak when it comes to transfers, especially when it seems Moshiri has also initiated signings (Tosun). If it’s as I assume, Brands is an expensive White Elephant.

Tbf, we know very little about which players have been turned down by managers previously - the Dumfries one we may never know, but the finance issues we have at the minute would appear to be more likely to be the root cause of delays on that. There was a suggestion a while ago that Marco Silva asked for Mario Mandzukic and Brands refused on the basis that he didn't want DCL to be starved of minutes.

Part of the problem, to my mind, is that some signings seem to be seen as the manager's doing whilst others are Brands's. That isn't the case at all - Brands either signs off or vetos suggestions from the scouting department and the manager. Ultimately, if a signing is good he should take credit, regardless of which avenue it arrived and he should be responsible for the bad ones too.

This might all come across as me defending him - it isn't, he's signed some duds and has wilfully walked us into a position this summer where financial restraints are a real issue. He didn't need to sign off on £200k per week or whatever for James, or the fees for Iwobi, Gomes, etc. He did and he shoulders responsibility for all of it

…I agree, we don’t really know what’s going on. Rumours suggest Benitez doesn’t want Dumfries but we don’t know if that’s the case.

Safe to say, all managers & DoFs under the Moshiri regime are culpable.

This latest stunt with Richarlison is just pathetic.

If this guy was an MP he'd be guilty of gesture politics.

Do one Marcel, led by our Dave we've seen through you.
He's hidden behind Coleman's year extension and Richarison's gold medal as we're having to rummage through the bargain bin at Aldi for players because of his failure.

The feller's got a brass neck on him.

Looks like his profile page on the Everton site hasn't been updated in 3 years
Brands has already helped implement a number of important changes at Goodison Park and worked closely with manager Marco Silva, Chairman Bill Kenwright and Chief Executive, Professor Denise Barrett-Baxendale, to secure the recruitment of seven players during the 2018 summer transfer window.

He has started work on delivering the Club’s long-term, permanent football strategy, also working closely with Academy Director, Joel Waldron, and Head of Football Operations, David Harrison.

Brands said: “It gives me a lot of confidence that I’m a Board member now and I hope to do the best for our Club.

“Being at Everton has been even better than I thought it would be. I was working at a great club in Holland and was happy there but it was a great chance for me to come to the Premier League and join Everton.

“At the start I had a great feeling but it’s been a better feeling working here. I work with a lot of great people with blue blood and I’m confident we can achieve many good things in the future.”
Either that or they too don't think he's done anything of note
