Marcel Brands

Someone needs to ask him at the AGM what he actually has responsibilities.

Is it full recruitment? Is it negotiating on behalf of the manager? Does he have responsibilities to set ab identifiable style of play at the club? Is he involved in manager selection?
He probably doesn't know himself.

You can tell it's messy when we all question who signed what players.

This is pretty much the most charitable spin I can put on the mystery that is Marcel Brands.

Either he’s bad at his job, or he’s not being allowed to do his job thanks to Moshiri allowing every new manager to overrule him.

If it’s the former, why haven’t we got rid?

If it’s the latter, a man with integrity would resign. Instead, he’s sat collecting a fat wage while trashing his own reputation.
A man without brains would resign.

I have not been allowed to do my job in multiple places, doesn't mean I just resign, those bills wont pay themselves.

His bills will be much bigger than mine obviously...

"He had Dumfries lined up"

So after needing a new RB for 3 years the only RB he could find was his countryman Dumfries. Hasn't he been poor for Inter too?

Not to mention, the other RB he found was AMN, who isn't really a RB by trade.

It's shocking after he wasted so much of the owner's money, he is still around. I can say with almost certainty that almost all of the signings under Marco Silva were Brands (exception of Richarlison and Bernard). And aside from Lucas Digne and Doucoure, not many has worked out.

I believe Benitez leaving Everton is inevitable one day. But if you sack Benitez now, you give Brands more power. Sack them both, who is going to lead the club?

That makes no sense mate. He definitely means the coaching etc. Very little we can do to affect the game really. I doubt Brands picked Benitez - Nuno or Potter would seem more a Brands pick to me. So he's probably ticked off and wanting Benitez out. He's also deflecting blame cuz this is his mess more than Benitez' at the moment
Good man Brands - call a spade a spade. The cancer is the waiter. And his comments show that he has very sketchy support if he has any support at all at board level.

I’m still firmly in the camp that his job is most certainly not as an actual DoF in this zoo and that he should walk. However can’t blame a guy for not giving up a good financial gig. Failed DoF’s find it much harder to get a new job compared to failed managers.
I don't know quite what the truth is here reading the thread. Some are adamant that he's responsible for all or some of the recruitment woes. Fai enough he probably is messing up some stuff.

But if what you guys say is right it is doubly worrying. It feels badly Sunderland. Organisational chaos, a poor culture (the other rumour banded about), and individual incompetence = deep doo doo.

Problem is no one knows the truth. I’ve formed my opinion based on the type of managers I expect to see vs who has come in, the signings that are definitely manager “give me” players & a struggle to see sweeping changes in a failing academy whilst more and more ex-EFC people are hired.

He could quite possibly have full control and be useless but I personally feel like he’s got his hands tied. I know people say the Dutch league is crap but what he did at AZ to me proves he at least knows what he’s doing.

WTF?!

Of course we can!!!!

It just shows how cosseted from reality Brands is when he looked surprised at being criticised.

The hard face Dutch get.

GTF out of Everton you utter fraud.

Looks the part.

Looks good in a suit.

His credentials are Eredivisie...

Inherited a nightmare.

That had to give him time and patience.

To be fair to him, the squad now is healthier (less bloat anyway) than what he inherited but competitively, he's sent us backwards.

On the pitch, we're significantly less competitive now, than before he arrived.

Where's the line when you say sack?

After the final whistle last season I shared my opinion if we don't improve this season, then his position should be seriously reviewed.

If we don't finish top 10 this season, added to our performance since he arrived - how can you really make a case for him staying?
