Marcel Brands

This is important ^^^

It unfreezes the club for a lot more managers who wouldn't countenance a DoF like Brands haunting them.

….mmm, I think there are more modern day managers who are not only used to working with a DoF but prefer it. I actually think it will restrict numbers finding not only a top coach but also somebody with a proven record in the transfer market.

There’s not many of those.

His reply to the fan the other night ‘is it just the players’ suggested to me he wasn’t happy with Benitez.

Can’t blame him either. Bright it to do a job. Not allowed to do it. Had to work with two big name managers with their own ideas on what they wanted, ignoring him.
I'm not sure why we expect to be allowed to shout and scream in someone's face like some roided up caveman.

….I doubt Ancelotti ignored him, I actually think he took note bringing in the likes of Doucoure. They probably had a decent relationship.

Benitez wont entertain a DoF, except expecting him to work to his instruction.
You may be right. My thinking is that bringing in big name managers was never really compatible with someone bringing Brands vision for the club to life.

We all got giddy about Ancelotti, understandably, but someone like Potter would have been a better fit.

Brands made his mistakes. Regardless of Moshiri's influence he cosigned a lot of poor signings. That said this club would be better off if it had a sell on strategy or the outbounds of PSV then the current crop and business that took place under his tenure. The question of why that didn't manifest outside of Holland might be for a load of reasons, but it begs questions of the Board in my opinion more than him.

Im comforted by the idea that Brands is leaving as his ideology wasn't and likely wouldn't have taken root at Everton at this point. That said the question of why extends far past him. This is a failure of the club much more than him. From the outside it seemed he conceded more to their goals than they did his. That has to be rectified this time around. And not by giving managers simply more say. Giving them leverage over a DoF created the mess.

If the club hires a new DoF, or simply consolidate and double down under Benitez , they will continue to struggle without a director primarily in charge. There are very few examples of lasting stability in the contemporary era to suggest otherwise.

The decision to extend his contract goes down as one of the most incompetent decisions ever. And it has probably cost us a substantial amount of money.
Par for the course for us, I'm afraid. You can look at a long list of people who were given unjustified contract extensions - Pistone, Campbell, Hibbert, Gravesen, Jeffers, Martinez, Besic, Mirallas, Baines and now Coleman, to name but a few.

Whatever your thoughts about Brands, the fact that as little as 6 months ago he was clearly in Moshiri’s plans but has now either quit, or been given the boot to fit in with the wishes of the kopite dinosaur in our dugout shows how much of an absolute clown show we have become.

This. The new contract was completely unnecessary, unwarranted and has just cost us another fortune 6 months down the line.

Almost as daft as the owner’s decision to appoint him in the first place, with no intention of allowing him to have the authority to do the job properly
