Marcel Brands

I’ve thought for a long time that Brands was either, totally inept, or, totally cowardly, it seems that the answer was cowardly. He was employed to be director of football, a role which Moshiri obviously did not let him fulfill. He should have been controlling all football aspects of the club, but, seems to have been allowed to control some of these aspects some of the time according to Moshiri’s whim.

Managers have far too much control at Everton, unless that changes it is totally senseless us employing and paying a DOF. We need to decide, as a club, whether the manager and owner control everything, or, whether we are to have a DOF who is left to do his job, i. e. direct the football side of the club.

My own take on this is that a DOF is essential in the modern game, as managers come and go so frequently, if you allow them to decide their own brand of football and bring in their own set of players to implement that style, you very soon end up in the financial position we find ourselves in. But, it’s Moshiris bubble, with a Moshiri’s rules.

What does the situation at Everton tell you?

It looks very much to me like Gray, Townsend and Rondon are Benitez recruitments.

James and Allen Ancelotti recruitments.

Putting managers leading recruitment to one side, there was talk that Tosun was hand picked by Moshiri, who first watched him in Monaco when Monaco played Besiktas. On bringing him to Everton he said;

he looked very good. I followed him and the coaching staff liked him. There are not a lot of strikers around, so hopefully we’ve hit it right.

So he liked him and the coaching staff agreed. Maybe they did like him, maybe the coaching staff wanted to agree with their boss and keep on his good side but he was scouting players.

Should he be doing this? Did it stop?

Brands cryptic message said enough to indicate the issue when confronted about issues at the club - just the players!

So for three years he just sat back and took being over ruled and then signed a new contract?

I have yet to see one credible piece of evidence that it is true, however, there is so much chatter about it now, most repeating what others have said, that it becomes the truth overnight

Exactly and it has now become FACT among our supporters. I am on other Everton groups and they are all spouting this stuff, it just furthers the boo boys. It is very divisive
It’s obviously come from the man who has just left the club as a way of opening the lid and saying “listen, this isn’t all on me”.

For years people have been asking what is actual involvement is, at least some things are now being leaked.

I mean our owner thinks it’s appropriate to inform fans of decisions via a text message to Jim White, so actually signing people and thinking he knows best is probably a very viable thing for this nutball

So if I’m understanding all these reports correctly, the DOF did not choose the manager or sign the players? No wonder he’s been sacked ?

Club Statement:

Everton Football Club can confirm that true to form we are the last to tell you that Marcel Brands has left his post because we honestly don't know what we are doing and have no interest or desire in communicating with anyone due to having nothing but contempt for you.
Mate, at a time when, yet again, being a blue is relentlessly frustrating, that made me laugh out loud!

Why should it? Have you walked away from many massively well paid jobs on pure principle? Particularly when your boss has undermined your reputation and probably made it difficult for you to earn the same elsewhere?

Yes I have. I have walked away from a few jobs when I haven't been allowed or able to do the role I was brought in for.

No money has kept me in roles, and I am pretty well paid for what I do.

I doubt Brands will have a hard job getting another role.

That’s not what it says though. It says that Brands said we don’t have the budget, but Moshiri purchased him anyway.

Which suggests, to me, that we may have been trying to get him on loan for a year, they rejected it and big balls nobhead owner just agreed to pay what they wanted going against advice

Mad how some people just can’t read properly isn’t it.
