Brands knew this appointment was terrible, he said as much with his ‘is it only the players’ comment after the loss. Id leave too, if i were him, nothing he could do to save this ship from sinking as long as we play fat Bennys tactics.
Why is this statement by Brands being taken as fact that it was aimed at Benitez?.

He shouldn't be backing either of them. He's just totally clueless and has too big an ego to admit he made a mistake with Benitez

This is all about protecting Moshiri at this point. Other clubs of our stature would have acted weeks ago, but our owner won't allow himself to look silly. The man is going to get the club relegated because he can't make rational decisions or allow someone else to make the decisions.
Its ironic really, our owners is too stubborn to admit that he made a mistake in appointing a manager who is too stubborn to admit he ever makes mistakes.

There's a strange kind of symmetry there

If the owner set a strategic objective of reaching Europe then the recruitment strategy and coaching/playing tactics would have to deliver this.

Mina is according to many our best defender so if we needed him, for example, to achieve the overall objective of Europe then market economics came into play.

The earlier example of Moshiri's involvement with Tosun must be considered too.

If you do add a third party into the mix, one that is running against or interfering with the planning then you would end up firefighting as unplanned variables come into play. In many respects it looks like this is what we are seeing play out. It is wholly dysfunctional and you would expect bachelors level student to have a decent grasp of this.

But the issue would be that all these people would be working behind each others back rather than being in discussion.

To me...Brands was comfortable with the structure. He wouldn't have signed a 3 year contract if not. Signings have been for the most part agreed from all parties to reach a common goal.

Due to the fact the fans have had a backlash against the board things have been questioned. And I assume Moshiri gave more backing to Benitez.

The issue is taking ownership of admitting we've not bought well and we need to address it

In one window under Brands we brought in:
Lossl
Delph
Iwobi
Gomes
Kean
Gbamin

Not one have contributed a single positive thing to the club and we will not make back even half of what we paid for them with the exception of Kean.

See ya Marcel.
This is where things unravelled for Brands definitely. If Marco Silva's interview last year is to be believed though, Brands was forced to sell to buy in that window and struggled to shift a lot of the deadwood meaning we were a bit limited in who we could buy. This is most likely a result of the Walsh-Koeman axis of evil that really goosed us.

Which takes us back to the point that if the strategic objective is reaching Europe then the recruitment strategy and coaching/playing tactics would have to deliver this, then the DOF would have to have complete oversight and control of delivering this.
