What a load of rubbish so many of come out blaming Brands for a lack of signings, ignoring good signings he has done and deadwood that he has got rid of. He inherited the mess left by Walsh which put us in a difficult financial position. and which he is trying to deal with.
It is not just a question of signings but he has to negotiate the contract which managers steer clear of.
What "deadwood has he got rid of" ?
Hes sold players for cheap fees or let their contracts run down....hes incapable of selling players for solid fees.
Im genuinely curious what deadwood "he's gotten rid of" that you are giving him credit for. Players running down their contracts or being sent out on loan with us subsidizing a large part of their wages is something literally any of us could do.What a load of rubbish so many of come out blaming Brands for a lack of signings, ignoring good signings he has done and deadwood that he has got rid of. Even players he’s been able to sell on a “good deal”, we ended up dropping clangers and 10s of millions to wall paper over the cracks:
Sell Gueye = £30 mill
Attempted Replacements:
Gbaman = 25mill
Delph = 8.5 mill
Allan = 21.7 mill
Doucoure = 20 mill
* I’ll be kind and not include Gomes
Safe to say he messed up recruitment in 18/19. Then had to spend another 40 million fixing the problem the following summer, starting from scratch. WoeGil recruiting huge waste of transfer fees (imagine we didn’t have to pay for Allan and Doucoure and what we could have done with it progressively this summer) that’s before you look at those four individual contracts all sitting on the clubs books.
Terrible and look at the impact on us financially, it’s hugely undermined us as a club and blocked us progressing, this role is supposed to enable us, not deplete us and block progress.

He’s useless. Absolutely useless.
wears nice suits but can’t shift players for any profit.
If we had sold Gana and immediately signed Allan or Doucoure for the same fees we ended up paying Id say that would be amazing business.
Gbamin, while a disaster and an 'off the radar' signing wasnt a name mentioned by anyone before we signed him. Its a move thats failed because of injuries rather than ability though.
Im fine with all three of those deals.
However, the Delph fee added onto either Allan or Doucoure's fees means that weve actually wasted the £8mil profit between those two and Gana.
In addition were paying out double the wages when we add Delph to what Allan or Doucoure will probably be making.
The major mistake here was Delph. If we were going to bring in someone then it should have been a young player...
For the outlay of:
Allan £22mil
Doucoure £22mil
Gomes £22mil
Gbamin £25mil
Delph £8.5mil
= £99.5mil
We could have had Davies as 4th choice and signed 3 new players with that money.
The difference with us and a team like Leicester is that those 5 players were not high potential young players....where is the upside with Allan and Delph? Who would sign Gomes after he flopped at Barca.
Doucoure isnt 'technical' enough for a top side and Gbamin is the only one of 5 who perhaps had any high upside.
We were supposedly going to pay high fees and low wages for young players.
Certainly not happened in centre midfield.
When you add Keane's extension and the lack of a new deal for Mina (18months left) then its equally bizarre.
Off the top of my head hes made a profit on Gana, Vlasic, Lookman and Bernard.
Vlasic of course is someone some of us wanted to keep. Hes obviously now a big signing for West Ham, I think that selling him was a mistake and he should have replaced Sigurdsson.
Bernard we were offered £9mil for him and then the following window we accepted £1mil. If were subsidising wages for other players then surely we would have been better off taking the £9mil and negotiating something.
Lookman i think we did well on. Getting a loan fee and then fixing a price which we managed to get the following summer. We probably made around £10mil profit on him.
Gana you can argue one way or another. For a £30mil fee a month off turning 30 it was a good deal.
The re-investment of this money(as my both above states) was pitiful.
Nope, they are rich but not crazy!he has no power now, it's Benitez's show
He's basically a spare part
On a lot of money
Wonder if a UAE club wants him

The board point mate isnt about the quality of the signings its how many times and chances required to get it right. Summers of bluff purchases needing to be repaired the following, we seem to sign two wingers to replace the last summer signings every year and we still need some for my money. All of which has bled the club of finances in fees and wages. While the squad as we all know is still unbalanced, with full backs and in creative midfield. Other years we have been short of central midfielders, center half's, center forwards and now full backs, we have a clatter of goal keepers who wont play though.
If you balance that against the ability to sell any of our players, bar the ones we really shouldn't, its not hard to see how we have gotten in such an awful financial predicament.
Walsh had his part to play, but he was here for a season, essentially two windows, Brands is here what 3 and half years now.
A bit harsh, most of them we can't give away.He’s useless. Absolutely useless.

I think it comes down to a few things, namely:
Age profile of the players, most of the signings we make dont have much upside.
Brands having equal authority with management leading to new managers wanting different types of players each year or two to fit different systems.
Multiple signings made instead of targeting 2 bigger moves a summer.
If you take my midfield example following from yours then thats around £100mil on centre mids weve brought in under Brands. The highest weve spent is £25mil and three others at £22mil, plus Delph...
...these are not large fees. Yes you can bring in good players for small fees but surely if you want to compete at the top you need to have at least one top class player through the spine of the team.
We'd be better off spending a large amount on one player and then two others for the £22mil instead of spreading the funds thin and needing to upgrade still.
Its by and large poor player trading, squad building and use of club resources mate, its instances like that that stop the club signing players this summer and progressing.
Jamo another example a decision made to sign him last summer, resources allocated 12 months later hes gone, its really poor.
