Contrary to what Sam Allardyce’s friends at TalkSport/Sky may suggest, Everton fans did not expect the former England manager to transport the team from 13th into European contention during his six months in charge. Nor did they expect a seriously flawed squad to become the great entertainers. They did hope, however, for some sort of style, identity or a modicum of entertainment to develop. Instead they had to endure football that yielded the fewest shots, the fewest shots on target and the fewest chances created during Allardyce’s brief tenure.

Jags trying to rescue his career @davek :

JAGIELKA 'SUPER EXCITED' TO WORK WITH SILVA

Phil Jagielka has been canvassing opinion on new Everton boss Marco Silva and is excited by what he has heard.

Jagielka said on evertonfc.com: "Everyone I've spoken to about him has said they've really enjoyed playing under him.

"I've got a few good friends at Watford and Hull and I haven't heard a bad word said about him. He's got high standards. He'll expect us to work hard and train hard - and he'll let us know exactly what he expects from us.

"I know the players and the fans will all get behind him. We have a new manager and new ideas and everyone will be super excited.

"He's obviously seen the potential and how much of a big club we are and that's why he wanted to come here. He's a young manager too. We have enjoyed having managers here for long periods in the past - it gives us solidity and I believe we can move forward in the years to come."

*gets shipped out to sheff united

I'll be happy if he can make me feel good about our players again. After last season there are so many I no longer have time for.

I'm not a huge fan of the idea of the 4-1-4-1 formation but maybe that will change when we see it in action with some of his and Brands' signings in there.

It's a completely clean slate now so I hope it is successful and I can go back to feeling good about us.

Silva doesn't really use a 4-1-4-1 that much, or hasn't in the past.

Usually 4-2-3-1/4-3-3, with a switch to 3-4-3 every now and then.

silva amounted 6 points out of his last 30pts in premier league mush x

:)

Now that he is here I am giving Marco my wholehearted support and I am already looking forward to seeing how things go, starting in August.

But there is way too much airbrushing of his EPL record to date among way to many of our friends on here ;)

Stats...they're wonderful malleable things.

Indeed, Dave.

Take his last three games at Hull.

The Tigers are out of the relegation zone.

Home to already relegated Sunderland.....away to Allardyce’s still endangered Palace....home to Spurs.

Lost all three.

By a combined aggregate of 13-1 (four of those goals conceded to an Allardyce team ).

And yet we have fellows on here able to put a positive slant on dem der stats

Or at the very least, willing to turn a blind eye to them :pint2:

IS Jags older than Silva?

It would appear from my extensive reading of the minuscule information available on him via the interweb that he is a confidence man manager. He excels in getting formerly strong players who are in a slump back to being effective (see our own Oumar) and this is born out by his winning streak propensity. However, the downside of that character is always that if you start losing its tough to stop the rot.
I would expect us next season to have occasions where we lose 3-4 on the bounce. however I also expect us to win 3-4 on the bounce. That just seems to be the man he is.
