By any objective measure, Everton are the best team outside the top 6, but we have to realize that by any objective measure, we are outside the top 6. League finishes over however many years you want, wage bill, squad value, club turnover, etc. We are 7th. If Marco has us finish in 7th playing good football, he's done his job. If we finish in top 6, he's done a great job. Bobby did a great job in his first season, although at a cost. Koeman did his job in his first season. Things are different now than they were in Moyes' day. City and Spurs are now better, richer and more consistently successful than us. For 10 years, they were not. Villa were our challengers as best of the rest a few years ago. We've done well in comparison to them. If another club stumbles, hopefully two, we need to be ready to make the most of it. But there are no guarantees and we need to give the manager and DoF time.

Welcome Marco, tough job ahead can't wait to see the new regime in action. 120% behind you.... COYB

We should worry about ourselves and not the top six.

I think the differential is too great to threaten it this year, who knows, but unlikely.

I would rather we just concentrated on improvement and narrowing the points gap year on year with the teams above us.

Fix our own problems and league placings will gradually follow.

There was too much short-termism under Allardyce and too much "project" talk under Koeman - Silva should just focus on the here and now and gaining improvements in every area we can so it translates on match day.

I think there are 2 guys in this world that have fullfilled what would have been my dream if I were a footballer. This guy is one of them, beeing Eric Dier the other one.

He's a good manager. Not sure if he has a trustable nature but he was, for a long time, regarded has the brightest prospect of a manager in portuguese football.

He made a brilliant work at Estoril, where he was a footballer, then he became their Director and afterwards he became their manager, guiding them to a promotion and an european football place in his debut in the top tier.

He then went to Sporting and made a normal job. Beeing the third spender he was third in the League and won the cup. Still he had 6 players at his disposal who went on to be European Champions (Patricio, Cedric Soares, William Carvalho, Adrien Silva, João Mário and Nani). Had a big burst up with the president and was fired.

Hope he can bring success to us. But I mean a real growth in stature because if he does someting like he did in Watford and a bigger fish comes for him, he might stab us in the back just like he did to Watford.

Yeah top
The top 4 is still difficult but the top 6 is not out of reach at all. There’s always s couple of them having a bad league season. In recent times Chelsea have finished tenth under Mourinho, Liverpool 8th under Klopp, United 6th under Mourinho and Van Gaal and 7th under Moyes.

City and United look very solid for the top 4 but you couldn’t say what any other side might do depending on how Emery gets on, if Pochettino stays, whatever happens at Chelsea, and if Salah gets injured/Klopp has a breakdown.
Top 4 will take something special. Be interesting if spuds can continue like the way they are. Fair play to them though they went through the same transition we are going through and it turned out very well so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Couple of seasons of youngsters clicking and a couple of decent signings and you never know...

100% behind Evertons new manager. Congrats Marco wish you and Marcel every success at our great club. Christ haven't felt this much optimism in ages.
Start of last season?

There’s a lot of work needing done but I’m delighted that the club has shown some balls.

Whether Marco’s the right man or not, we no longer have a crook at the helm and can genuinely say that we’re trying to show some ambition.

I’m not sure who else would have taken the job anyway so this is a good result and I’ll be behind him, and the team he puts out, 100%.

BTW, delighted we never went near Arteta, which we could well have done given the circumstances. That really would have been a disaster in the making.

I think he'll stay at City despite the Girona links.

Silva was the correct decision. Always go with experience over inexperience if possible.
silva amounted 6 points out of his last 30pts in premier league mush x
