I don't blame zonal marking in the slightest. I blame the manager, the coaching staff and subsequently the players for not utilising zonal marking properly. Was zonal at fault for the pen? The freekick, which was man-marked? The bad pass in midfield leading to their third?
So many people have picked up the word 'zonal' this season and blame it for our faults when its not. Its the lack of quality in defence, the disjointed midfield and the uncoordinated attack.
If you've got players who aimlessly let players run past them and regularly fail to go and challenge for the ball, then man-to-man marking isn't going to work either.
The disjointed midfield and players who are unable to do the simplest things only exacerbates our situation more, as we struggle to make up for when we concede.
