Whilst I agree the Spurs game was a horror show, I still have absolute confidence in Silva.

The tactical tweaks against Burnley were enforced possibly due to weak options and I believe the tactics he wanted to utilise against Spurs were only let down by personnel.

The mentality the team showed to come back against anyone and play as we did yesterday showed he’s in control and we move into the transfer windows with options to grow the team.

Brands needs to identify the players who will hopefully come in and ensure we lessen the type of performance on show against Spurs.

We just need to be patient and allow the team to continue to grow - hopefully a slotter and beasty energetic midfielder come in to sort out the spine of the team.

The first half of the season under Silva has not been without its setbacks but we do at least look a good outfit and the foundations are there to add and push us on.

Very important this. Martinez, Koeman and gravy tits all lost the dressing room and for large parts of their respective campaigns the players clearly weren’t enjoying it and going through the motions.

With all of the big egos and primadonnas in football now the coach has a tough job in keeping everyone onside and playing for the club rather than themselves. Could be why Lookman has been in and out of the team/squad.

Has the squad improved? Are we creating more chances? Is the football more attacking and fluid? Is it more enjoyable being an Evertonian?

For me, the answer to each and every question is yes so I really find it difficult to comprehend why some people are so vehemently glum - expectations are odd.

Obviously, there's still areas where we must improve and comparisons will naturally be made with previous totals, but in the grand scheme we've clearly improved[\QUOTE]

Exactly right. To expect us to improve in every single area in the 4 months Silva has been here is completely daft.

As was mentioned above, the centre halves were noticeably clearing their lines more yesterday, rather than fannying about with it in dodgy positions and although we still have our moments, we’ve stopped conceding from set pieces as readily as we were at the start of the season. We’re learning from our mistakes and trying to improve on them.

I believe if big Sam was still here we would be around 10 points better off

I agree absolutely we would be 10 points better if Sam had been manager this season.

He would have made us stronger at the back and in central midfield. W

We would not have played so much `nice' football but he would have improved the team he got the same results out of last season as Silva is now.

...I think the comparisons are always worthwhile but shouldn’t be taken as gospel. 27 points on Boxing Day for the past two seasons doesn’t suggest progress, but we can see improvement, not least because we enjoy watching our team more.

Allardyce’s was clearly a short-term appointment, he came in and achieved his objective. Silva’s appointment is hopefully long-term and is work in progress.

I do think, though, that the key appointment is Marcel Brands. The players who have come in have largely impressed and he seems on the same page as Silva. A playing strategy supported by a transfer strategy, players playing to a system and individuals acquired to fit it.

A huge majority of out fan base thought Martinez was some sort of second coming because we played `nice football'.

But the sensible ones and those that knew what was going on at the training ground knew that it was just a matter of time before it all collapsed.

He had no clue how to set up teams defensively and didnt coach players.
