In short: give Silva the tools to do the job. He may as well be sacked if he isn't getting them.

That's why he's not getting the sack. Brands and the club WANT to play a certain way and we just don't have the squad to do it.

Today was the perfect example. LCFC packed the middle and even though we rightly attacked with width - something Silva loves to do - we didn't have the quality from the right or the finisher in the middle to pull it off.

Keep in mind, last year all we DID was attack on the right side. So in a single window we've taken what was a glaring weakness and turned it into a strength. Brands also knows he can't turn this team in a single window. There's no way. He plugged in glaring holes in CB, CM, LB, LW, and just hasn't gotten to CF or the right side yet or add the proper depth at CM or quality at CB.

Silva has Keane playing better, but he's not the future CB at this club. Walcott, Kenny/Coleman, whoever we are playing at CF won't be here in the long run. And the bench, my heavens...

...we've got a long ways to go. Could use a bit more fortune on the pitch and it makes the January window seems like such an urgent situation where we HAVE to find some more quality. I don't think it's a coincidence our congested fixture schedule has worn our club down. Just don't have the depth to give players the rests they badly need.

But it's an unreal position to take up that Koeman was denied an attacker he wanted when he had the best part of £150M to spend in a single window...a window where he used one-third of that warchest up paying for Siggurdsson alone.

It's like saying that someone who won £150M on the lottery and wasted it were hard done to when they demanded and were denied another £50M to give themselves another chance.

Koeman was the architect of his own decline here, there is no question of that. And his failure to replace Lukaku as a matter of urgency rather than try and get to the end of the window to land Giroud was about as appalling as it gets in strategic planning.

Silva's words on a striker are all about diplomacy. Of course he'd like another one, he stated so in that recent interview when he said he wasn't prioritising it. He said when he got Richarliosn in that he was a striker as much as a winger, and he may feel himself a hostage to that statement now. But that's all besides the real issue here: we have a DoF OVER AND ABOVE the manager, who;'s job is to put together a squad that has depth and quality to it. If he's looking at this team with no right side to it of note, no quality striker and no competition at GK and he concludes that this window will have to be a quiet window, then I have to ask what the point of this post and appointment of Brands is.

In short: give Silva the tools to do the job. He may as well be sacked if he isn't getting them.

There's no way of squaring that circle. Silva has had as much as koeman.

Its either a valid excuse for both or neither.

I’m fairly sure we could have had at least a couple of strikers after Lukaku left (not including Giroud), but Koeman didn’t want them.

Josh King was one of them if I recall.
...Giroud he left us chasing. FFS, he's an option off the bench yeah, but that divvy Koeman chased Sigurdsson with a cheque almost double what any other manager would have offered and left us short in attack after a prolific goalscorer vacated the club.

Koeman pissed a couple of hundred million up against the wall, and you expect more understanding for that divvy than Silva?

Have a think about it.

No thought or logic behind Koeman and Walsh's decision making with transfers, we probably would have ended up with a 60-70m flop had they got a striker last summer, then again Walsh wasted 20+ on Tosun last January which is bad enough. Any ideas who you want in striker wise mate?

Good post mate

No point in sacking Silva. Half this team wasn't signed by him and 5 months is nowhere near long enough for him to improve us. That said, I am very disappointed with the way this season is going and I don't see us finishing 8th.

Finishing on a par or lower than where Sam Allardyce had us after inheriting a mess does not reflect well on his managerial ability, particularly after clearly strengthening our squad.

It was the maddest summer I remember for all the wrong reasons mate.

It helps me. I;m still raging from his last two derby gifts he wrapped up for them.

He's not good enough...not by a long chalk. Get rid.

But you know he isn’t going anywhere though yeah?

I’m not overly happy with him recently either but stuff like ‘get rid’ feels a little silly when he’s not going to be sold. Heck, he’s not even going to be replaced in the team.

My counter is that people should take into account that we really haven't been far off though. I'm not saying it's all bad luck - we haven't deserved anything from today, Brighton, or more than what we got v Watford or Newcastle.

Yes we have. Please stop acting like we’ve been tearing through teams and only poor luck or finishing as cost us.

The way we played after the first couple of games has disappeared. There’s 11 individuals out there with no direction or set way of playing.

It’s painfully obvious. We’ve scraped points, been humiliated and basically struggle to create chances

What?! How has Silva had "as much as Koeman"? The last season Koeman was here he spent £186M; Silva spent £80M in the summer.

I haven't acted like we've torn through teams. But it's not wrong to say we've created gilt-edged chances that we've missed?

We are where we are because, in the last three homes games against sides we should beat, we haven't done the job. I get that. But we haven't been far off getting much different results. It's not like under Koeman where we were not even in games.

And just five games ago there was a clear direction. A clear set way of playing. We have lost that and need to get it back.

He should be at any well run club. He's safe here because we have lower standards. That is all.

Not just him who is safe either. Agree with that.

We pretend to be a big club but we really aren’t in the way we act and run the team a lot of the time. Yeah we pay the big bucks for players. But it’s increasingly the wrong players (and potentially managers) and it’s going to severely cost us.
