Wasn't the problem at the end of his tenure what we have struggled with since? We can't chase matches.

It was a major problem that the club failed to sign Zouma permanently or to sign another central defender with pace. Silva wanted to play with high press and defend with a high line. Things looked OK when ahead in matches, but when behind the team really went for it and threw too many in attack. Leaving Keane and Mina on the midfield line without any form of protection.

First match after Silva was let go Holgate was in the central defense and ended up being voted player of the season by the players. Not necessarily for being brilliant, but he gave some much needed security to the defense with his pace. It is crazy how much better defenders such as Mina, Keane, Coady and Tarkowski play with a quick partner.

It seems like Silva has learned from that period. His Fulham team seems both more patient and balanced.
Was it Leicester away that all but finished him? When we pushed on for the win and got suckered punched at the last after getting back into it. Should have shut up shop, taken the point and moved on. We just needed something to stop the rot.

Next match, bumming in the Derby. Players looked like they'd given up.

Yes, it was a mistake. To appoint him in the first place, that is. Like Martinez, he was another manager who specialised in getting his teams relegated and yet we chased him as if he had a record like Pep. His appointment wasn't the start of the decline but it was another step on the journey

Nearly all the managers we've had since have been terrible but it doesn't mean it was wrong to sack Silva. Both things can be true.

Even Koeman's time is looking appealing to me right now and I'd never want him back in a million years.

Marco Silva should never have been the Everton manager when he was. Now? Still wouldn't want him. But he was in massively over his head here. No, we didn't get rid of him too early.
I think this is it - he definitely needed to go. The problem now is expectation levels are fallen far below what they should be that his tenure is seen favourable.

I can’t remember multiple seasons like this when relegation has been a clear and present danger every year.
