You are trying to convince yourself of sommat you don’t even believe yourself, Bainsey.

Either that or you are both turning a blind eye and cocking a deaf ear to the possible downside of employing Mr. Silva.

And based on his record since April, they are quite considerable I am afraid :p
You seem to have taken against our future manager already? I find your stance slightly puzzling since you are normally very considered and knowledgeable in your opinions.
In this case you seem to be basing your opposition on just a handful of games in a distinctly impressive career for one so young. You are resolutely ignoring his record and successes at Estoril, Sporting and Olympiacos. You are also disregarding the fact that he took over Hull in January and any club in trouble in that month is going to take a Herculean effort to save, and he came damn close.
He wasn't my choice to be honest, I wished for Tuchel , but compared to our current novice incumbent ( who currently appears overwhelmed by the task ahead ), his greater depth and breadth of experience is far more preferable in my humble opinion.

There are no ideal outcomes here in our scenario Khal. We need to pick an up and comer who is ambitious and got that winning desire and strength of character that this club needs. Our board aren't capable of luring an Ancelotti etc.

I'm not sure if Silva is the man. I'm really not. But I certainly wouldn't write him off before he came. He's not a guaranteed failure or guaranteed mediocrity like Sam. Theres at least a chamce of more. If he's appointed then he gets my full backing until such time as it's abundantly clear he's not doing his job satisfactorily.

That is a great post, Tim.

Silva might not be the man....or indeed he might be.

But some of our friends on here have already anointed him as some sort of a guru based on his spell at Hull which myself and others have scrutinised and cannot see what the fuss is about.

Ditto his current form at Watford after a decent open inning.

In fact, it is not beyond the bounds of possibility his job there will be in jeopardy a month from now :(

It is the thoughts of paying ten million quid to get both him and Watford off this potential hook which is unsettling me

We could well have him for nowt in six weeks time

That said....I totally agree with you he is a more positive appointment than Sam or Dyche.

And probably a more realistic long term solution than Unsie.

And if he does sign up for us I will welcome him enthusiastically :)

I like the cut of his gib far more than I ever liked Koeman, whom I more or less disdained from the getgo.

But in the meantime I have some misgivings about Mr. Marco Silva and I do believe they are well founded :)

Not at all, Eggy.....not in the least.

I just find myself for once cast in the role of iconoclast.

My misgivings are not based on a “handful of games” but on almost a year of working in this country.

Some bugger needed to step up and say “hang on, boys.....let’s just have a good look at what he has done here....”

And if, after doing so, you and others are still bowled over by his CV the so be it :)

But I ain’t convinced, I am afraid.

And until he is given the job I will continue to voice my concerns :(

If and when he is appointed.....then as I said to @ToffeeTim , I will back him wholeheartedly ;)

And at the minute that is the best I can say, Eggy :pint2:

But there is no going back for the Spaniard, who led Brighton into the play-offs in his first season in charge since taking over Gus Poyet and has now parted ways with the South Coast outfit.

Garcia was concerned he could not take the club any further on their budget.

He told the club's official website:

“The club has been aware of my thoughts for several weeks and during this time I have had discussions with both the chairman, Tony Bloom, and chief executive, Paul Barber.

"I have enjoyed my time with the club but, although I do not have any immediate plans, I have decided to move on.

Gray 26
Richarlison 20
Hughes 22
Chalobah 22

These were his signings last summer (ignoring backup frees/loans).

This tells me that even though he may have seen Watford as a 2 year contract stepping stone, he invested in the long term. Koeman of course did the opposite to this which ive been very displeased with.

It also shows a possible preference to build teams with a focus on youth (which we have in abundance).

His teams play to their strengths and play to win...he's used different tactics at each of his clubs.

If he did come in and brought Richarlison with him we could have Lookman, Richarlison and Vlasic as our wide players.

This would be a very exciting appointment.

Have I missed something here like?

Paying 10m for a manager doesn't concern me at all if they believe it's the right man. You'd spend 10m on a young player with potential without hesitation. 10m is nothing these days especially for the most important role at the club.
