Are you at the Atalanta game tonight mate? We could meet for pre-game drinks if you are?

I appreciate you're a London based blue so it's possible you wouldn't be about for a midweek game.

I won’t be tonight. I very rarely get to Goodison Park, I’m afraid. My trips to home games are concentrated mostly on that little bit of August before the academic year starts. Ironically, my last Everton game was at Watford (in the home end). Never say never though.

Still want another 24hrs? I am respectful to all other members of this forum as I am a guest. But you’ve been found to be clutching at straws with the vast majority of your comments about this. I said from the start that it would be harder than you thought to get him - but you chose to spin the same uneducated yarn as Merson et al without ever looking at the situation impartially. I don’t believe you’ve been ‘owned’. I think you’ve just thrown a lot of bluster about that hasn’t been fruitful. You might get Silva in the Summer - I have my doubts, but that’s a debate for if and when it resurfaces. I do think you should stop regurgitating this as somehow being positive though. There’s too much noise for it to not be true.

‘Watford are totally screwed here...’

Come on pal. Stick a fork in it, it’s done. We have a manager we are desperate to keep, we’ve kept him and he showed on Sunday he has the ability and backing from the squad to ignore the external noise. If he was going to walk, he’d have done it by now and I suspect you know that.

You haven't been respectful at all though have you. You have lied about me and accused me of things that are not true.

You also seem intent on trying to goad people. I have no idea why.

That's a shame mate, maybe when I come to the Watford game in February we could catch up.

All the best.

You’d think that if this was off, we would have announced Unsworth as our manager today.

Hmm.

Watford will end up above Everton this season
Watford need 1/2 players in January and they are likely to have already been identified. Everton, according to many on here, need a rebuild that could take 12-18 months
Silva will have ambitions greater than both Watford and Everton
Less expectations at Watford
The championship is littered with clubs whose fans still believe they are a “big cheese”. The Sky money has levelled the playing field

Pozzos will not get rid mid season. Don’t believe Silva has really been that interested in going

Your board have just wasted 4 weeks and alienated Unsworth

Good luck for the rest of the season

There are some fair points in here. Let's address the red herrings though.

1- without any shadow of a doubt Silva wants to come. I have always been doubtful it will happen (see back several days of posts and my Twitter feed). Watford understandably don't want to lose mid season.
His words, body language and refusal at any point to commit to Watford is yelling though. He wants to come.

I think it's hugely doubtful you finish above us. You have a history of collapsing late into seasons, on no small part due to the short term deals your managers are given.

Under Mazzari you lost your last 6 having made an replica start to the season and ended up 17th. Under Flores you picked up just 9 points from your last 12 games. I suspect a similar drop in performance this season because all of the same factors are in existence. I also think this is why Silva wants to leave by the way, as he knows his stock is at its highest.

We are not 18 months away from having a good team. Not a lot has been made of Evertons absentees, namely Mori, Barkley, Coleman & Bolasie. As and when they return we cover a lot of bases. The issue is then one of depth and getting players such as Sigurdsson, Gana, Schneiderlin back to previous seasons form.

One area we need a player is a striker. If we add that, by some distance we had the best 11 outside of the top 6. We also have a layer of younger players getting starts who over 18 months could develop handsomely. This may be where the confusion over 18 months has come from.

The Championship is full of big cheese teams. None of them are as big as Everton mind, but you are right to say that is no insulation from poor leadership. Watford are very well managed, clear in what they do and execute those plans very effectively.

Common sense would probably have led the board to think that your board would see sense in accepting an offer 5 maybe 10 times as big as they would get in the summer. That's not an unreasonable assumption. I think they underestimated your boards desire to do management transfers in the summer window though. Fair play to your board, they have identified this is critical to your success and not moved away from it.

Your model has worked well, but sooner or later if you want to do more than start seasons well, reach 40 points and then fall off I do think you are going to have to take the plunge and offer a manager a longer contract. I am surprised you didn't try that with Silva in the summer but there you go.

Good luck for the season, come back in May and we can see in the end which team is higher!

Huh? Please go on....

You accused me of banning newspaper outlets from this site,
sticking your oar in to defend a Watford fan who was being abusive on here in the process.

That was not massively appreciated to be quite frank. So let's try not to take a moral high ground from a position that isn't there hey mate?

Woah...I didn't specifically accuse you. I accused this forum in general of deleting things. I witnessed the impassioned responses of some and made an apology which was noted by your Mods and accepted. I didn't apologise to you personally because the comments weren't made directly about you. Nor did I lie about you. No moral high ground to be taken. Feel free to go back and look at that and you'll see it's true.

As for me being intent on goading 'people' - again, false. I have taken exception to some things 'davek' has said because they seem uninformed about my club and he seems intent on carrying on some charade that he knows something I'd say he clearly doesn't. It's much easier to be pragmatic and say you may have got it wrong rather than backtrack and spin it to suit yourselves when actually, the situation has gone against you. I've noted a few times on here the nuances of our club ownership and how it works. I have said from the start that I thought your chase of Silva was going to be harder than anyone wanted to believe - I was subjected to people telling me Watford would bend over and take it just like Southampton did. I didn't rise to the bait or get abusive. I merely engaged in the playful back and forth that happens between rival fans on a teams forum - I've always been respectful that its your forum. I've always been respectful towards Everton. I've always been respectful towards Liverpool as a city. Read my post made yesterday and you'll see my thoughts on the whole thing - they weren't goading in any way. I doubted Silva would leave, but I never said he wouldn't. I said I would post a gracious message on here once the saga had ended and hopefully after today's press conference, thats what I will do.

I apologise to you now if you somehow took what I said in the context that I was accusing you individually of anything, even though I really wasn't.

A very well thought out response.

There is a key difference when it comes to Watford this season and that’s reaching 40 points and then switching off will not be accepted by Silva and the players are too good for that. If the Pozzos see Silva continually improving the team then I’m sure he will be offered a long term contract, just doubt he would sign it as he will feel he’s destined for bigger things

I have no inside info but, as much as I’m sure the role was tempting, I have not seen any sign that Silva really wanted the role or was trying to force it. Any other viewpoint is just subjecture

As for Everton, the fear is that you get sucked into a relegation fight which is a place that few of your players have ever been in. Your squad may be good but that’s a very different challenge to trying to retain 7th Place. You may also have all the money in the world but, as recently demonstrated, that doesn’t always mean it’s easy attracting the talent you need or that they will automatically fit in. With your aging defence, injury problems, key high profile players out of form and manager uncertainty I would say that this is one of those unjoyable seasons that you just need to get through before rearranging the troops over Summer

Still think we will finish higher than you this season though:p

Ball is in Silva's court now. If he is interested in the blues then he will have to force the issue at his end. Better for Everton anyway that. Hate seeing us continually being held for ransom by no marks like in summer. Lets hope that we are exploring other avenues such as Tuchel.
