Just being realistic mate. Silva wants it apparently. Watford cant hold him as a slave. It'll happen. The remainder is all about keeping relations as harmonious as they can be under these circumstances...which is where the compo comes in. If the club up that figure it sorts it out pretty quickly.

Aye I agree - if he wants it mate then it'll be pushed as far as possible.

I just worry if we have a figure in our head and Watford push that... same as Gylfi in the summer dragging on and on... You and I both know the incompetence of certain people in charge of these things!

Anyone else not wholly convinced by this guy? Is the only reason we are desperately chasing after him because there's nobody else available?

There must be somebody else available? Surely

Not “wholly convinced”?

I am not even one iota convinced, having looked at how he failed to get Hull over the line when they were two points clear of the trap door with three games to go and a home game with relegated Sunderland next up.

And the way things have panned out at Watford recently, three losses on the trot, and United and Spurs among their next four opponents, this guy could well be available for free by January, given how ruthless his bosses at Watford are even with relatively successful managers......as @Youorns84 has reminded us.

Silva wants it all right.....because he knows he might be in big trouble himself soon enough.

I dont think there's any turning back now. For both clubs. Everton (as with the Sigurdsson affair) have invested too much credibility into getting him; Watford for their part have an unsettled manager.

Is there any British record for compensation for a manager?

At what price will Watford say yes? £15m, £20m?

We are ripe for the taking. I do like Silva and think he represents the best we can do now but have to say I'm uneasy at being held to ransom.

Martinez' pay-off, the same for Koeman and his entourage, compensation for Silva, summer transfer spending, January spending.

Someone has to get a grip at the club. I don't want to see austerity return but we have been peeing money up the wall quite a bit in the last 2 1/2 years.

So far, all that layout has achieved precisely nothing.

Of course they can. He's under contract with no release clause. They don't have to accept his resignation; as long as they keep paying him according to his contract, they can stop him signing a contract with anyone else.

If he sulks and doesn't put his all into the job, they can put him on gardening leave. (it would be professional suicide for him to 'go on strike' though) In fact Inter put Mazzarri on gardening leave, paying him his salary, for 18 months, to stay at home.

No doubt a chunk of his contract is performance related, so they won't have to pay that. His wages aren't such a big deal in the great scheme of things.

I think Chelsea paid over £12m for Scolari just to leave but as for manager to club record I think someone with a decent memory will have to help you there!

Watford paid £18m for Andre fecking Gray. They turned down £30m for Troy fecking Deeney. This talk of Watford holding out for money is delusional.

Quite torn on him. Did remarkably well before he came to England. Hull certainly improved under him even though they still went down. Watford have had a good start albeit they've lost their last 2 or 3 games.

Can't really fault any of that, and his sides seem to play decent football, but for some reason I don't feel like he's done enough to warrant us going big for him - his win percentage of 78% at Olympiakos is very impressive and everything, but they're expected to win the league. Not sure how relevant it is. Also came 3rd and won the cup in one season with Sporting. As far as I'm concerned his most impressive work seems to have been getting Estoril promoted then taking them to two successive Europa League qualifications

I may end up seeming silly for saying that but I simply don't know about him. Feels like the body of relevant work I'm judging from is too small

Couldn’t agree more with you- especially that Sunderland game. It could be argued that Silva worked miracles to even get them within a chance of avoiding relegation, but that Sunderland game was atrocious (cost me a bet as well the prick). When it comes down to it, his team bottled it against one of the worst teams ever seen in premier league history- who had nothing to play for! I know it’s only one game but it was a massive massive game and quite frankly the buck stops with him on why what happened happened. When it came to down to the crucial moment, his team failed. I think we’ve all endured enough of that in recent years.

His suppsoed potential appointment also comes on the back of his team losing a 2 goal lead to ultimately lose to another poor side. We’re no Sunderland but man, that was another collapse. He’s got form for this type of thing and it’s worrying.

With Silva I feel like he’ll be akin to Martinez in the sense that he’ll be able to pull out some good results, but they’ll be a few to many stinkers and hidings in their as well. His teams play on the front foot which is admirable but when you’re throwing away leads and have quite a poor defensive record that has to be a cause for concern. I’ve already made the comparison but I think we all know who that last sentence I just wrote can apply to. Been there, done that.
