You're not a real manager until you're PWEMIER LEAGUE PWOVEN mate, same goes for players. Credit to our board for taking their time with this, ahead of the curve as always.

Lol.

I remember Poch got absolutely torn into for not being "proven in da prem" when he arrived at Southampton. Wonder what those folk think of him now.

The whole "proven in the PL" thing is a complete myth, you're either a good manager or you're not, end of.

Watford need to be seen to be puttng up a fight. They know, everyone knows its game over. Just a matter of time. Silva will be our next manager.

Not “wholly convinced”?

I am not even one iota convinced, having looked at how he failed to get Hull over the line when they were two points clear of the trap door with three games to go and a home game with relegated Sunderland next up.

And the way things have panned out at Watford recently, three losses on the trot, and United and Spurs among their next four opponents, this guy could well be available for free by January, given how ruthless his bosses at Watford are even with relatively successful managers......as @Youorns84 has reminded us.

Yeah, you've put my hunch into actual words and facts there. He also quit Hull as soon as they were relegated, which suggests he may not be the most loyal servant.

I hope that our board / club is doing diligent, highly comprehensive research into our next potential manager with a large list of options. But it seems, like with Koeman, to a certain extent Steve Walsh, and at least up to now Sigurdsson, that they are just desperately chasing the latest flavour of the month.

I am also slightly concerned about the perception of the club, the board appears to be a bit of a shambles after mentions of Allardyce and Simeone as 'potential candidates' and also with Unsworth not given an explicitly defined interim period. If we now fail to get Silva / have to desperately chase and pay through the teeth for him, we are gonna look even worse and other clubs will remember that when it comes to future negotiations.

All that said, I do hope to be proved wrong and will remain open-minded and if he is appointed I will get behind Silva and hope he can have a positive impact.

Is there any British record for compensation for a manager?

At what price will Watford say yes? £15m, £20m?

We are ripe for the taking. I do like Silva and think he represents the best we can do now but have to say I'm uneasy at being held to ransom.

Martinez' pay-off, the same for Koeman and his entourage, compensation for Silva, summer transfer spending, January spending.

Someone has to get a grip at the club. I don't want to see austerity return but we have been peeing money up the wall quite a bit in the last 2 1/2 years.

So far, all that layout has achieved precisely nothing.

Think @MoutsGoat was saying Chelsea had to pay £13.5m to Porto for Villas-Boas.

Couldn’t agree more with you- especially that Sunderland game. It could be argued that Silva worked miracles to even get them within a chance of avoiding relegation, but that Sunderland game was atrocious (cost me a bet as well the prick). When it comes down to it, his team bottled it against one of the worst teams ever seen in premier league history- who had nothing to play for! I know it’s only one game but it was a massive massive game and quite frankly the buck stops with him on why what happened happened. When it came to down to the crucial moment, his team failed. I think we’ve all endured enough of that in recent years.

His suppsoed potential appointment also comes on the back of his team losing a 2 goal lead to ultimately lose to another poor side. We’re no Sunderland but man, that was another collapse. He’s got form for this type of thing and it’s worrying.

With Silva I feel like he’ll be akin to Martinez in the sense that he’ll be able to pull out some good results, but they’ll be a few to many stinkers and hidings in their as well. His teams play on the front foot which is admirable but when you’re throwing away leads and have quite a poor defensive record that has to be a cause for concern. I’ve already made the comparison but I think we all know who that last sentence I just wrote can apply to. Been there, done that.
I understand what you're saying, and you may well turn out to be correct in your assessment of him, but is there a manager in the world - not just one who would come to us - that those things wouldn't apply to?

Seriously, nobody is perfect. Howard Kendall is the greatest manager in our history and even in his first spell he oversaw losses in 3 cup finals and blew a substantial lead in the title race. It happens. It doesn't make you a 'loser' or mean you have a weak mentality, you literally can't win them all.

Think the Pocch is a bit of a myth tbh. His win percentage at Southampton was considerably worse than Koeman's.

At spurs he got lucky with Kane and Alli. And his win percentage at Spurs is only the same as AVB and not too much better than Redknapps and Sherwoods.

It’s interesting...

If you’re EFC: He’s obviously had his head turned and wants the job. Only a matter of time. Happened repeatedly with managers in the past...

If (like me) you’re WFC: We’ve said no. Twice. And aren’t budging it seems. Everton are making a bit of a mess of this.

Until anything new happens, my personal and final current outlook is this: Whether he is or isn’t interested, very few managers say anything outside of Press Conferences. He hasn’t had one since this broke so we await Friday. I still think
It would be very odd for him to release a personal statement saying he’s not interested when all we’ve seen so far is paper talk. It doesn’t indicate to me he’s had his head turned one way or another, and as his employer, our owner has very likely told him to say nothing. Anything that is currently unsaid is open to interpretation by both sets of fans to suit their own agenda. My one biggest point to you would be though - I’ve said it in a previous post, we have ruthless yet extremely savvy owners - you only have to see our raise in stature and relative profile since they took over not that long ago. Better ground, PL football, better players, no debt, stability. We know these owners well at our club - even IF Silva wants to go - our owners will do that only on terms that suit us and they are terms I doubt EFC will agree to meet. I strongly believe there will be no terms set however, we’ve said no. There will be no compromise to suit everyone I guarantee that. Keep chasing but you are getting time critical now really and this situation isn’t playing into your hands at any good speed.

I’d put good money you’ll have Unsworth in place in a week or less.

That being said, we’ll see what plays out. It’s been swapping opinions with you all over the past 48hrs! Good luck with getting your man (whoever that may be!) and good luck for the rest of the season!

I can't remember who it was but someone posted a list of managerial candidates in here the other day. Had Fonseca, some Argentinian manager and a few more. Is anyone able to link me that list for me please?

With any appointment at any club, there is a huge amount of luck and "clicking" needed to make it a success.

Every appointment is a massive risk, no matter where as everything could unravel with the wrong type of luck.

If Silva comes in it might click here and push us further then we hoped.... or it might spectacularly fail.

Replace Silva for 98% of managers and its still a true statement
