I'm no lawyer, but I think that Watford issued a "Cease and Desist" letter to us, and so if we did not continue our pursuit of Silva, at least not directly after that warning, then we did not do anything wrong other than unsettle him, which is not sanctionable in itself?

The whole point of Watford standing firm at that time, and of Silva remaining in his post and saying nothing which could be directly construed as stating his desire to leave, was that a line would be drawn under it there and then.

I can see the correlation between Silva being unsettled and their drop-off in form immediately afterwards, but many other factors come into play for that also.

Then they fire him, six months elapses, and they are looking for compensation now? £8m was the last figure I saw quoted. It's ridiculous, if they are playing hard-ball with Watford they are right to do so, provided they come to a suitable arrangement soon.

I think that Silva is already the manager just not announced. He will know the Everton squad from playing against them and in all probability has known since Christmas that this job was going to be his. I expect that he has seen every ball kicked in every game in the last five months by an Everton player.
Brands has been mentioned as the new DOF with several weeks as well.
No announcement has been made about Silva and no new players have been announced but I would bet that the targets are identified.

Yep, agree with you blueblue.

Have you seen any material evidence to say this is going to drag on until mid June and that this is only the start of our search? You never answered that
No. We all have experience of the last three Everton managerial recruitment processes though. This has all the hallmarks of a fourth protracted process.

Think I've spotted the flaw in your reasoning... ;)
I just cant attach any sort of credibility to the line we've been handed over Silva and the delay in announcing a new manager. Obviously it wont and cant happen now on the eve and early aftermath of a CL final for that lot. However we had the window open on this already to get maximum publicity to relaunch us with a new manager and it wasn't taken. My guess is we didn't because it's only now getting underway.

If Silva is announced on Monday/Tuesday next week then ok, the stories in the press about a Watford impasse might have been right. Looking at the way Everton operate though I dont get that impression and I believe we're looking at a point beyond next week.

Could be. I'd like to think that this New Everton means less of the drawn out shambling off the past, and that Moshiri is learning lessons from it. I'd be happy with Silva, but if this delay is not just "Watford" then presumably that means Brands is now taking the lead on this and we are looking for a 'better' manager, which I would also be happy with if it came true...

Either way mate they've all had time enough to get a manager out the door and replace him seamlessly if they wanted. Brands will have been aware of the target(s) and the whole thing should have been wrapped up in days not the weeks that it will take now.

The organisation is a shambles, and I'm surprised that anyone looking at the game of musical chairs played out off-field plus the recruitment of a new DoF believes that's miraculously solved the culture of utter chaos and failure overnight.

Possibly, but I don't imagine he will have been able to properly sit down and talk to any prospective candidates prior to officially announcing he was joining us, so if it is a 'new search' that is what could be causing the 'delay' imo. Either way, discussions with possible incoming managers about recruitment could have been taking place as part of the process. And as we have a new DoF from a different league, I don't imagine that any signings would be imminent even if Silva/ANO had been announced the second Allardyce walked out the door.

Haha no. I'd like to think of it as an evolution of natural evolution, with a little bit of foreign mutation from Brands. If he's hit the ground running the could have a big effect on the culture/way we have conducted business previously.
