Marco Silva

Would be let down honestly. Flavor of the month. They have to get this right. Can't be doing another rebuild and manager search in 6 months time.

Taking a club like Estoril from the lower reaches of Portugal's second tier (Segunda Liga) to the higher echelons of the Portuguese top-flight (Primeira Liga) was also extremely impressive.

Silva has done well at every club he's been at, bar Watford. And in fairness to him he had a tiny budget at Vicarage Road. Plus, Watford never looked like going down.

Totally agree.

That's rubbish tht Silva will automatically mean a terrible defence. First thing he'll do is punt out old cart horses like Jagielka and Williams. Then he'll look at Keane and Mori and decide if they're good enough. He'll definitely bring in one new CB starter.

I just hope, alongside that, he brings in a new left back and a creative midfielder.

Oh and that he rids the squad of the massive amounts of trash that is hugely draining resources from us and giving nothing back at all, I am looking at you, Wayne, Yannick, Sandro, Morgan, Maarten, Davey (nothing personal, just not made for this league), Kevin, et al ...

Hopefully less faith is shown in bang average yet local lads such as Kenny, Davies and Calvin Lewis, as they are crap. Get 'um on loan to learn their trade, not starting games for us in the Premier League.

This bit caught my eye.

When Silva took the job in the summer he was looking forward to working in the Pozzo’s continental model, which was why he took the job in the first place. But in reality he was frustrated that he could not sign all of the players. When he arrived at Hull City last January, Silva could sign who he wanted: Evandro Goebel, Omar Elabdellaoui, Lazar Markovic and so forth. But when he arrived at Watford, where Filippo Giraldi is in charge of transfers, it was not so simple. The club signed Richarlison at Silva’s request. But there were plenty of Silva targets they could not get, like Benfica centre-back Jardel or Shakhtar left-back Ismaily.

Seems strange considering we will soon have a new DoF.

I know we’re not the best in this transfer game, but still we’re Everton not Watford. I bet Silva has been given assurances we will sign whoever he wants. In my opinion our DOF would be more about setting a strategy for a whole club, ensuring everyone including Academy are on the same page when it comes to the style of playing and just dealing with transfers and contracts. Silva should gave him his transfer list and he should work on this basis not exactly the other way around.

A 32 year old centre back and a 28 year old left back. I hope recruitment is taken completely out of his hands here! Last thing we need is to clog up the squad with more average old/ageing players.

You’d hope there’d be a collaborative approach to transfers. If the DoF and manager can’t have a mutually-beneficial working relationship, then something is wrong.
