is Silva actually that good though

look at his record at Sporting Lisbon

yes he went the season at home unbeaten but he drew 1-1 with Benfica at home and drew 1-1 with Porto at home

away from home he lost 3-0 to Porto and drew 1-1 with Benfica

we need someone to come in and start getting results against the top 6 sides in England - we need to start beating the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal on a regular basis and not just once every 5 years or so.

Not sure Silva is the right man for the big games.

Emery has won domestic and European trophies regularly. Dropped the ball at PSG in regards to the champions league but other than that...it's a higher calibre
Yeah I think Emery has the much better CV. I think his style is possibly more defensive than Fonseca and Silva, which will certainly please most on here, but his teams know how to play football too. He has a good record taking over clubs in disarray (including Valencia after Koeman) and isn't frightened to bring players through and develop them. I've heard he is a bit of a disciplinarian and I fear he may turn into another Koeman, but that is probably my only concern.

Realistically there are no complications. Silva had a 1 year contract with another 1 year option apparently. He is in dispute over the £750k he is due for the second part of his 1 year contract which Watford are refusing to pay him (hardly shocking news given their owners). If he starts for us now that could only effect a month of that claim, say £150k. Given that he'll earn that in less than 2 weeks with us I can't see that being a huge issue.

The ongoing dispute is between Silva and Watford. It will be nothing to do with us and I can't see that there is any way it would stop Silva joining us immediately if we offered him the job.

Yep makes sense. The fact that they sacked him must surely nullify any sort of compensation claims between Watford and Everton anyway i would think. Don't think they would have a leg to stand on going down that road.

Given that he has been out of a job for a while now and not been interested in taking one during that time, there has probably already been some discussion and ground covered privately between him and Everton i would guess, with him being under no contractual obligations etc.

Let's start beating west ham and Southampton first. Good luck to whoever comes in, they've got a massive job on. Relieved that it's the end of Sam. Thanks but no thanks where he's concerned, he had a great opportunity here to do something different but he reverted to type and squandered it.

No loss here. Typical cryarse Evertonian who should shoulder a decent portion of the blame for the position we are in for a having a really negative cynical view of the club, no matter what it does.
In fairness that's exactly how I felt when Allardyce was appointed manager. So I can't really criticise somebody else for having the same feelings, albeit about a different manager.

However I do disagree with him 100%. Silva isn't my first choice, but after what we've had to put up with for the last few years I'm quite excited at the prospect of what a combination of Brands and Silva can bring to the club.

This is going to set us back years.

Any potential newcomer after this bloke is sacked, which he will be before the end of the season, is going to view the whole situation as toxic.

Is Emery linked with anyone? Personally think he is out of reach for us
I'd like to think we at least sounded him out. He certainly has one if the best CVs. You have to factor in that we are one of the highest payers in World football. Does he speak good English does anyone know?
