All things considered: There's no leadership on the pitch. We don't have a clear captain everyone looks up to. Seamus is the right kinda guy bot not really. Siggy is definetly no captain. Richarlison wants to be looked up to but fluffs way too many chances for that.

Not just talking about the stupid armband, I'm thinking in the group, socially, taking responsibility. Someone needs to step up and do that. Not even Silva is able, though.

How do you know they aren't? Unless of course you know them all socially in which case I take it back.

Why would any manager agree to work under that?
That's the DoF role as interpreted by Brands. The Dutch are very hands on. It works in Holland maybe, but there's no patience with managers over here to be given time to implement a DoF's style, so Silva will be under pressure. The key thiugh is Brands' purchases: good enough for Holland, not good enough for here.

"Dry your eyes, mate.
I know it's hard to take but Farhad's mind has been made up.
There's plenty more clubs in the sea.
Dry your eyes, mate.
I know you want to make Marcel see how much this pain hurts.
But you've got to walk away now, it's over."

Having worked for a Dutch guy in a Dutch company for three years their attitude is pretty much "bring it to me when its finished" and taking no excuses, as well as being brutally direct.

I disagree with your interpretation as everything I've read from Brands and Silva would suggest that the manager identifies the type of player he wants for his system, makes suggestions and leaves the rest to the DoF. The DoF relies on the manager to develop the playing staff and coach them to his own system.

But again, if Silva just gets to do as he's told in a system he wouldn't pick himself... why did he agree to work in that model?

A novel idea, back the manager to coach the team to improve results.

Football and fans are gone soft, 8 games in and most of the forum have lost their load.

He’s been here for longer than 8 games tho , take that fluke 10 game run at the end of last season and it’s sunderland form since he’s been here. That run at Xmas was terrible and looking at our December fixtures this year he’s going to ruin my holidays and New Years this time round too

So he’s doing worse with a better squad and that means he should be given more time?
Squads need time to knit but sometimes players don't knit into squads for one reason or another it's the same with managers for some reason most top managers have desire a driving personality an seem to gel with there players I don't think Silva has any off these and it's only a matter of time untill the board finally make there mind up

Football isn't an orthodox buisness. It's a strict hierarchy with the key decisions being made by one person - whether that's the owner, the DoF, technical director, sporting director, CEO or coach is the only issue.

behave lad.

did Allardyce change his way when he was here …. no.

managers don't just change the way they play over night .. it would mean all the players he has signed wont fit the new system !

I get what you’re saying but ironically if he changed his system the players would probably have more chance of suiting it than the current one. Not one of our players can play the lone striker role effectively, none of our wingers can cross , our cf can’t finish crosses and our high line has no pace to recover, none of our players can zonal mark

So why agree to work in that model if he can't do his best work? Why does Brands not just manage himself if this is the model?

..because it's a PL job that pays well and if you think the DoF has an eye for a player that coincides with yours then you accept it.

There is no blend though...just as there's no blend in the team. The two are connected, IMO.
