If he can resist his temptation to ever play Schneiderlin and Siggurdson he could have a bright future. When we’re good we’re very good under him. Vice Versa is sadly also true.
Cardiff away last year, he went away and rebuilt a system, and we ended up getting (I believe) 23 from 11 games. For him the season ended at completely the wrong time. Probably another 2-3 games we finish 7th. Wolves were running out of steam.
He has done similar today. We have completely altered the system. Bernard back in, mobility at number 10, 2 genuine number 8's who can go forward/back and carry the ball forward and playing someone with pace and discipline down the right. Not all of the changes popular ones, but we looked very well balanced.
We now need to build on it, as we did last season. We have the template now though. We can't go back to Sigurdsson playing as a 10 in the way he was or Schneiderlin playing as a 2 behind him. I'm not saying either can never play again, and I do think Sigurdsson is a good enough player to play deeper, but we have a template now and he will need to build on that.
It's funny really about really good and bad. If we play as we did today, the only 2 teams who are better than us are Liverpool and City. We'd give both a game at Goodison too. I don't care what people say about Leicester, we would beat them. However when we've been bad, we are as poor as anyone. So he needs to get us "at it" more often than not.
A good win today though. This doesn't feel like Bournemouth at home under Koeman either, where Niasse saved Koeman's bacon.
He needs to build on this. We moved away from what we did last season, we need to build on today.
