2019/20 Marco Silva

If you can't be good be lucky. Silva's been left with a folding hand. The Director of Football hasn't done him any favours and eviscerated any chance for the team to push on.

When the game was closing out, the cameras slowly panned to him, this was a man staring down a barrel. Silva's ghostly pained expression, knew the game's up, it's only a matter of time.

If it wasn't for his paycheck, I'd feel sorry for him. He knows it's only a matter of time. As usual the Board are conspicuous by their absence. Waiting for the supporters to turn on him so they can wring their hands clean. Again.

Inevitably somewhere down the line, we'll go again. The problem isn't the manager or even the players, it's the crucial decisions that are made at the top. The sheep fear the dog. Not the Shepherd.

Or that one of his best players just had his foot dislocated, VAR decisions against the side, and a very long emotionally charged match.

After 11 games.

2019-20 - Marco Silva

P11 | W3 | D2 | L6
For 11 | Against 17
Points 11
Position 17th

2017-18 - Ronald Koeman

P9 | W2 | D2 | L5
For 7 | Against 18
Points 8
Position 18th

So Silva has 2 more points from 2 more games than Koeman had before he was sacked.

In those 9 games Koeman was in charge of the 'top 6' we played

City
Chelsea
Spurs
United
Arsenal

This season in our first 9 games we've faced just City, and beaten easily by the two newly promoted teams.

Start compared to last season for reference.

2018-19 - Marco Silva

P11 | W5 | D3 | L3
For 19 | Against 15
Points 18
Position 9th

All I care about is 1 number and it's at the start of the table.

How can he be remotely defended by anyone?

Oh wait sorry, this must be another transition season.

The problem is any board with ambition would have gotten rid at this point but our board are clueless cowards.

Moshiri said 11th isnt good enough last season but will no doubt come out with "bad luck" excuses when asked about our current position not how we have been dog awful all season.

Marcel Brands was billed as some ruthless & ambitious DOF who would drive us forward yet after a poor TW he's letting the manager get away with murder instead of stepping to the plate and taking control - what is it about people coming to this club and turning into bumbling eejits?

Absolutely fed up of us whole clubs a disgrace.

If Usmanov doesn't come on board soon / we are sold we are in trouble with this lot of clowns.

I don't blame Silva for either of our last two results but he's still miles out of his depth. The club will continue to drag their heels over him though and will no doubt sack him in Jan when we're still around 15-17th and out of both cups. I swear that we're run by blithering idiot.......

He will get a stay of execution this week because the board will see us gaining a point but it will all be overshadowed by the Gomes injury. A defeat next Saturday will see the end

No harm done waiting one more week for things to settle down. These players spend many hours together and the bond might be deeper than you’d imagine.

There will be plenty of “harm done” if Saints beat us next week, which in all likelihood they will if Silva is still in charge.

For the record, I don’t think he will be fired before then but I do believe he should be, irrespective of the gomes injury.

We are on the same points as the Koeman/Unsworth car crash, with a better squad and easier games. He’s had some bad luck, but still should have us with more points than 11.

He just doesn’t inspire confidence. I hope he can get the elusive away win next week, perhaps after going behind to break that duck too and get some confidence going into the break, but I just can’t see it.

I'd still like to think we are at least a top half side, if standards have fallen lower then its grim indeed.

True to say it isn't all on Silva but we can't sack the rest of them and I think we badly need new impetus.

The players, Brands, Moshiri, and the board all have questions to answer. All have been found wanting.

We cannot keep having Groundhog Day at this club - we are only one further botched appointment away from disaster, and a potential downward spiral out of which we may not be able to recover.

In short, the club is an utter mess at present.

A board with any ambition would never have contemplated going after his services in such an obsessive manner in the first place.

I think it is precisely because of the highly publicised and rancorous pursuit of Silva that he is still in the job.

Firing him confirms that Moshiri was a right mug in letting Watford embarrass us and then pay compensation for hiring a man they themselves had fired.
