Marouane Fellaini - The next Patrick Viera???

I have noticed that Benitez always puts his bigger more powerful players out against us. The likes of Carragher, Hyppia, Skirtel, Gerrard, Babel, Alonso, Kuyt etc.

They played Carragher at right back last season to stop Lescott getting forward, worked a treat to be honest. He is a tactical genius after all.

It'll be nice to not be worried about set pieces and lack on presence in the team from now on, big Fellaini will wipe them all out.

Just a thought on Fellaini. Anyone really watch Liverpool v Liege??
Apart from the first 20, Liege were crap...they didn't control the game at all. They did not have the ball !!
Do not expect anything from this lad, he gave the ball away when not under pressure...and didn't create anything..He will genuinely need time.

I actually watched a rerun of the game yesterday to have look at him, your completely wrong to be honest.

Not many teams dominate possesion at Anfield, when Standard did get the ball they looked dangerous. Fellaini, Dieumerci Mbokani and Dalmat all looked good.

His distribution was neat and tidy. Nothing amazing but he did keep the ball. Physically he was excellent, Liverpool couldn't handle him at times and especially in the air.

He's a defensive minded midfielder, we are not expecting a Moutinho or an Arteta. His role in the team is to make us a more solid unit and give us a physical presence. I'm sure he will do that, ofcourse he might need a bit of time he's only 20 years old.

I suspected they looked [Poor language removed] and defended all match. But Fellaini in another environment can be very very useful. And his height at set pieces will be a good asset.

Would you say the box to box thing is not him Toccy? How did Liege play him, did he sit on the back four?

It looked like they where playing a diamond formation, Fellaini was playing deep in a more defensive position but when they broke forward he was always trying to get into the box and get on the end of crosses.

I think he could play both roles, defensive and as a box to box midfielder.

Thats a useful tool to have, with having Castillo as more of a protect the defence player we should be sound. Thats if theyre any good of course.

Our distribution from defence is pish a lot of time so someone who's calm and can pick a simple pass will make a difference hopefully.

I think we should relax about Felleni, im not expecting him to be anyehere near the finished article. Hes only 20 and is bound to be inconsistent and lacking of expierence. In and out of the team IMO. Watch this Castillo cat though, another gem in the making!
