Martinez: Everton players fear Goodison Crowd

Well we are clearly breaking most teams down pretty easily and compared to last season and most other teams in the league it's definitely not turgid.
Our players run at teams as much as any team I've seen for years.
As for teams finding it easy to win. Who would that be? How many games have we been outplayed in? Or lost by more than a single goal, or drawn because of a ridiculously late goal, or offside goal, or missed great chances to win or hit the woodwork. Some of these are leftover criticisms from last season and if they're being dragged up now then people are obviously blinkered.
Seeing the good and the bad doesn't make people apologists for the manager. And having an opinion that says a lot of fans aren't helping things doesn't mean people are blind to other things that may help turn an exciting team into one that turns a handful of draws into wins and is challenging for top four.
Yesterday was turgid, as was Norwich at home, Manure and Liverpool. Tottenham and Watford weren't particularly inspiring performances either.

And where did I stipulate a result was a win? Although we dominated possession teams like Palace came with a game plan which was successful.

Teams may not outplay us at home (I'd only say City and Manure have), but we are not able to turn our possession into meaningful results.

As I mentioned earlier, teams know how we play at home and are able to capitalise on this (a win or draw). We are far too laborious for large parts!

I'll turn your question around: apart from Villa, Sunderland and Chelsea who have be dominated at home? Who have we overtly outclassed?

We may dominate possession, we may often come close to the final cutting edge pass but it's often not good enough. We also concede far too many.

Away from home is a different story altogether which I think we play with assurance and panache; it's just our suicidal defence which isn't helping.

Maybe we view things different and that's fine, however I'm looking for substance over style. Currently we're not offering that in my humble opinion.

Perhaps he means didn't touch the ball for the first two and a half minutes...

I was late getting into the ground yesterday, but when I sat down, the first thing I was told was Besic just hit the post, so no idea what actually happened in the first few minutes, just find it strange, 1 sec, lemme watch highlights and see what minute Besic hit the post.

Oh I was there. Besic hit the post on about 3-4 minutes which was with the first bit of possession we'd had, no doubt inspired by the gee up the crowd had just given them. Pathetic first half, don't worry about it if you were late, it's ok to admit it you know

Well yes mate, cos ive clearly just said it.

3minutes 10 seconds Besic hit the post, I heard the noise from outside, so I got in at 5minutes and the place was already full morgue.

I won't go while kenwright's there (Haven't been since the 2-2 with spurts when howard saved a late pen!) So watched an NBC stream. The commentator made note of how 'subdued' the atmosphere was, and the co-commentator said it wasn't surprising because we hadn't touched the ball!

Think when we did get our first touch, it went out for a throw!

And then the crowd apathy brought up again, after about 15 minutes IIRC.

Lol
Whatever, does it make you feel better groaning at the game?
Its always gone on for crowds to groan at their team but it is usually outweighed by cheers of encouragement...I feel that at the moment partly because of results and the way we are prone to mistakes this has become more prevelant. You can sense that the fans are waiting for the first mistake to happen as on Sunday - it then goes silent and you can hear individual comments from the supporters until they have something realistic to cheer as per the equaliser. Swansea go ahead and its like "here we go again" The 2nd half was better but the longer the game went on frustration set in and I think had Coleman scored in the last min it would have just masked the problems we have. Listening to some of the comments on my way out of the ground there wasn't a single positive one about Martinez or the performance. Forget the 2 cup games - our most important game is Newcastle on 3/2/16 imo although 2 good results before then may help....here's hoping COYB!!

I know but honestly we never got within 10 yards of them for the first whatever.. The crowd reacted and it was like Besic decided enough was enough and went for it. Now that's a player who would be inspired by the groans and do his utmost to change the attitude of the crowd. The Goodison crowd will always appreciate effort in my opinion even if the end product is not always there. Anyway come into the brick before the next game and I'll buy you a bevy and whinge at you. Not been warming up properly lately ;)

Martinez: Everton players fear Goodison Crowd, by GrandOldTeam

Roberto Martinez reckons his Everton players play with doubt and fear at Goodison Park and has suggested “we need to make it comfortable for our players”.

Everton have only won three games at home all season, and when asked about their defensive mishaps against Swansea, he replied: “It happens at home more than anywhere else. I don’t think we have that sort of doubt and fear [away from home].

“We’re a team who knows exactly what it is doing. We’ve got really good individuals with fantastic character who care about what they do but our defensive record at home this season is not good enough.

“It doesn’t go along with what we are as a team and doesn’t go along with what we produce away from home. It’s clearly something we need to work on.

“We have six games left at home and they’re vital games for us. We need to make it comfortable for our players. We need to make sure we find a way to perform at Goodison.”

@GrandOldTeam: I think Martinez is just passing on a message from Tim Howard (in particular). Its a classic case of 'don't shoot the messenger' yet people are.

I personally think: Martinez is being TOO NICE with the players.

He really needs to put the fear of God into one or two under-performing half interested players. Who frankly deserve dropping.

That Stones -> Howard back pass was an absolute disgrace and neither of them have any excuse for it.

Its time for tea-cups to fly in the dressing room as the manager is getting flack for the players poor performance.

One or too need to shape up or ship out in my view.

Its a view I know @davek shares and one I think @The Esk would also agree with.

Give them hell Roberto. Don't be Mr Nice Guy all the time. Some of these wasters don't deserve it the way they are behaving. Lets stop the excuses. The players not performing on the pitch are to blame.

Not defending is inexcusable.

Instead of coming out with what he has would it not have been better to say you know what we are playing poorly at the moment, I take full responsibility as manager and would ask the fans to get behind us against Newcastle because there support spurs on the team and we will do everything we can to improve our poor form

But wouldnt saying that mean facing reality?

If they're not here its because they dont want to be playing in a stadium where the home fans dont support them.

If it were me and I wasn't an Evertonian I'd be off in a shot if this kept up. These players can do without the hassle and they'll get big offers to persuade them to leave it behind. That'd be a big ploy in other club's strategy to win them away: remind them of their own playing environment and say: "d'you really want to put up with that for another three seasons?"
Goodison was like a morgue on Sunday because there was nothing to cheer. A half arsed attitude in the first half which at the time made me wonder if he had already lost the changing room.

And you need to stop tagging in every flaming post.

It does my nut, and I am sure it does those who you tag agree. Pack it in.

Aye. The only one who decided to go at them. Might've been a different game altogether if he hadn't gone down early.

Yep. About time he turned nasty. Stones wouldn't be seeing the inside of the stadium for a month if he'd done that backpass under moyles. He'd have been buried under it under waldo.

The only one who martinez has had the bollocks to try it on with is mirallas. He's cut the kids (Stones & Barkley especially) too much slack imo.

Ha Ha Ha. These players only want to be at Everton because of Roberto. They've said so.

I do understand your frustration at having zero influence over anything but that's just hopeless speculation.
