People seem to completely forget what quality of players we had back in 13/14

Lukaku and Mirallas up top where far and away better than anything we have now (good as DCL, Richarlison are). God forbid what happens if DCL and Richy miss more games.

Barkley and McCarthy had pace power and aggression in midfield and could both handle the ball. We don’t have any of that now.

The back line of Baines Distin Stones/Jags Coleman is just a country mile away from what we have now.

He also had Pienaar Osman Naismith to bring off the bench when needed. Pienaar and Osman even now could probably play around our current team.

The squad is nowhere near what it was back then unfortunately, and we went pretty injury free that season as well in terms of main players.

From the way we are even considering unworkable solutions like a job share I suspect discussions with Martinez have been going on for a while. Probably he was being lined up to take over after the World Cup but the need to bin Rafael has thrown off the timing.

Agree, think only Pickford, Mina and Richarlison would have been capable of getting regular playing time in that team and Mina is rarely available anyway.

I honestly thought it was a joke. Going from benetiz to Martinez is just unbelievable. Those in charge haven’t got a clue. I’d still think it was a joke if he hadn’t already managed us, but Moshiri has sacked him once and now wants him back. You really couldn’t make it up.

I don't think it's happening. A red herring as I said before. I think it's going to be Rooney or Dunc or the pair of them together. But if it did happen with Martinez at least you know there'd be no in between, we'd either soar up the table scoring for fun or we'd get relegated leaking goals but still scoring. Would be exciting at least lol
