Lol. What a an odd way of looking at things.

What Puel has actually just done is outshone Koeman after 6 months in the job at Southampton.

Koeman gave Southampton their best ever PL placing.

That's better than getting to a League Cup final. If they win the cup, for sure it's a great achievement and he has then outshone Koeman. But they won't. lol

Then they'll lose VVD in the summer and will probably struggle in the league next season because they don't have someone as good as Koeman to paper over the cracks that come with selling your best players. ;)

On topic, Puel has outshone Martinez with a lesser club than us.

Martinez tried to play football the pretty way, trusting in his players to be able to pull it off and abandoning defence in favour of attack.
It didn't work and he took Wigan down, and took us significantly backwards, but as annoying as his constant 'phenomenal' outlook was (grated on me from day one), I admire his conviction. He was not going to change his ways if he took us down to div 3 or won us the CL because he believed utterly in what he was doing.

Koeman is a lot more adaptable and therefore imo a superior manager capable of greater things, but I think tpeople should stop labelling any of these frauds. They were all genuine in what they did and all adding something to our history, even if it was not ground breaking.

Personally I hope he does great for Belgium, I also want Moyes to keep Sunderland up and take them forwards, and I want Kenwright to see some silverware before he leaves us.

I would say it is because more of our players are fit for longer and the ones who aren't are seriously injured instead of pulling muscles all the time.
How does that occur in 6 months? Under Moyes we had a manager who was also big on physical fitness and we had a lot of soft tissue injuries. More than under Martinez.

If we've had fewer of them this season it's just been fortuitous. And we've had a very mild winter and a very light match schedule.

Yeah, not sure I'm buying the fewer injuries point, think it's too early to say. But Martinez used to infuriate me with lack of info re injuries being given. That "soft tissue" line he used to trot out, which gave an impression of something minor, used to keep players out for months.

But what has Martinez got to do with S'ton? Are you sure you've thought this through?

Koeman is the ex-S'ton boss. Puel is the current one. Puel has an even money chance of winning a trophy in his first season in the job. And even now that cup final appearance is more important to S'ton exposure wise than any 6th place trophy that no one anywhere gives a flying one about.

I agree. But we all knew pretty soon that 'he'll be back in two weeks' meant 'he'll be out for two months'!

It is all about training methods to be fair. the harder the training, the fitter the players, the more likelihood of injuries. Either that or the other extreme, the easy training mixed with football is likely to trigger niggles all the time same as not stretching when warming up. There is a reason why some managers get more injuries than others, i would wager that Moyes telling the sunderland players to run up sandhills so to speak has triggered issues in the players who may have trained much lighter previously. I am not insinuating Moyes is to blame for it, just the change in methods had a negative reaction.

My point was that Martinez failed with us, and that Puel has already achieved more despite being at a lesser club.

Moyes was doing light training here (after a tough preseason)...his famed 'prehabilitation'.

Still didn't matter. We played a lot of matches and players got injured. It can happen. It hasn't happened with us so far because we have a very light schedule, nothing to do with the miraculous healing powers of the Koeman Brothers.

Yes, failed us by getting us a record PL points total. Failed Wigan by winning them the biggest domestic cup competition in the world.

he sure was a failure wasn't he.
