Player Valuation: £150m
I agree. That was his weakness and the reason for his downfall. Too trusting of the limited talent of others. But surely if the players weren't up to playing that way then there was no point in persisting with it.

...but if you dont win the league, that also means nothing....? That's your logic.
Down to the players being hopelessly unable to develop. It has to be that, because we played a lot of exhilarating football in his first 18 months here, especially away from home, and because the Belgian team were considered to be the most exciting team at last year's World Cup.
And yet with absolutely zero help from him, in his time at Everton we finished 6th, 5th and 5th and reached an FA Cup Final (a far more consistent record than Mr Martinez, I'm sure you'llVan der Meyde on his time at Moyes' Everton:
"There were only two players who could play football, the rest were just running and kicking the ball. It's unbelievable."
THAT was the scenario Martinez walked into and tried to change for the better.
Never let it be forgotten that chasing after the pat on the head for finsihing 'best of the rest' off the media for our hoofball this club had strayed far away from playing football.
He did try. Let’s get him a participation trophy, eh Dave? Nothing quite like idolizing someone who tried and failed.Van der Meyde on his time at Moyes' Everton:

I was a big fan of Martinez. That first season of his was magic. Fudge all that crap about it was Moyes's players and his setup. He got us to two semi's more than anyone else has done since. He should have been given a couple of more seasons to use the money we were getting. No doubt I’ll get replies saying he would have bought crap, would have relegated us etc etc.. He got the semi's of the World Cup FFS. "YEAH BUT HE HAD WORLD CLASS PLAYERS" Exactly my point.Van der Meyde on his time at Moyes' Everton:

I respect your opinion mate, but we are nowhere near better since his sacking, Walsh and Koeman's signings were garbage and pathetic. Don't see much changing under the current setup either. You're supposed to progress when you sack a manager. We haven’t.He would have bought crap, would have relegated us
Not being funny but that's just a fact - even Martinez's greatest fans would admit he was an atrocity in the transfer market, and it's indisputable that we were heading for trouble that last season at the very least - the players had finally had enough of his relentless bullshitting, clueless boring training and were openly questioning what remained of his authority. Goodison Park a soft-touch laughing stock, which is not something I'd ever thought I'd see, no matter how bad things get. This wasn't at all like when Koeman got binned, which was just because his 'project' had demonstrably failed - we were shabite but relegation was never seriously on the cards.
And you reckon he needed a couple more seasons? You don't get five seasons in the prem to finally get your [Poor language removed] together. If there's not progress after five games people are asking questions nowadays. Laughing at the idea of Blerto throwing his hands up in frustration after 30 MONTHS in post plus backing in the transfer market. Why can't I reach these players?!
We were significantly better in Koeman's first season than in either of Martinez's final two.I respect your opinion mate, but we are nowhere near better since his sacking, Walsh and Koeman's signings were garbage and pathetic. That's true mate - I think people were always sceptical of Koeman just on his personal manner, but his first season was night and day different to the despondent, no one gives AF attitude of the last Martinez season. Looked like it could be heading in the right direction until the wheels well and truly fell off.We were significantly better in Koeman's first season than in either of Martinez's final two.
He also almost relegated us. Well in Moyesie. And yet with absolutely zero help from him, in his time at Everton we finished 6th, 5th and 5th and reached an FA Cup Final (a far more consistent record than Mr Martinez, I'm sure you'lldisagree)
PS. God it's depressing that he stole a living from us for 4 years
Better to try and play football the right way and finish mid-table a couple of times than finish top half by belting the ball from your own half to the opposition 18 yard box as your tired 11 year old tactic. He did try. Let’s get him a participation trophy, eh Dave? Nothing quite like idolizing someone who tried and failed.
