Yes, 100% tory rat.

If you have a very clear clause in your contract; isn't it only natural you get paid what you're owed. Regardless of who you are, what's your profession etc... It's only fair, pacta sunt servanda. That doesn't make you a Tory. If they sack a normal worker, pretty certain he/she would also like the complete severance payment and not a payment in part even though his/her unsatisfactory work might have been a reason for his/her dismissal. Just like Koeman is apparently entitled to a top-up on his contract with the Dutch FA. The person to blame here is the person who negotiated the contract on behalf of the club.

Btw I don't think he's a Tory. He's paying his (high- a lot higher than in the UK) taxes, he does his acts of appearance for free etc... He talks about social cohesion, inclusion for gay footballers, and similar themes. He refused a raise when he signed his new contract, because he wanted the money to go to grass-roots football in Belgium etc...
Armel this is Stockholm Syndrome my friend. He dished up this oily smooth patter for 3 years at Goodison Park whilst systematically dismantling a strong side and taking it down to the cellar. Passionately talking about phenomenal passing and arrogance in possesion whilst the unfit, unmotivated, confused team lay down to get humped at home by Crystal Palace. Just because Belgium are awesome and there's less on the line in international football doesn't mean he's less of a slithery conman.

And he wasn't owed money like the club were refusing him backpay or something - it was a contentious dispute over the terms of his contract, or self-evidently it wouldn't have needed any arbitration. He tried to lawyer every last penny he could out of EFC, after exposing the club to scorn and ridicule with the worst home record since the second world war. When David Moyes took Sunderland down, he resigned and refused to pursue the compensation he was legally entitled to. Why did he do that? Because he's not a Tory, and he knows that when you've made a show of yourself, hugely underperformed, you don't wait around to be sacked in order to squeeze money out of a terrible situation for the club and supporters.

....Martinez took us to midtable.

You answered your own question.

The feller is a very good manager. Everywhere he goes he's produced records for the teams employing him. He's proven. I know that's difficult to accept because you felt you were entitled to see him continue after the first season polishing Moyes' turd of a squad, but that's just life.

Judge a man by his actions, first and foremost, goodisonopheliac. If it walks like a grasping Tory multi-millionaire, talks like a grasping Tory multi-millionaire then you know the rest. No need to overthink this one.
Sam Allardyce does all of these things, and is an utterly repulsive human being to boot. He also votes Labour. :( And SAF is a massive lefty as well, and he's one of the most ambitious managers in British football.

(Personally I thought Bob would be a liberal. Maybe it's the Catalan independence thing. As long as he's not far right though, I don't really care since most footballers are right-wing anyway. Apparently.)

He set a record or two at Everton alright. Nadirs, but records nonetheless.

Looking back now that a few years have passed, if you never watched us play in that period it would actually be hard to understand why he was sacked. We were on a relegation trajectory for a time but it was the usual story of their being 6 or 7 other absolutely horrible sides, so pulled out of it without actually playing well or doing anything different. Got to two cup semis, RM on a huge long term contract and we're not ManUtd who can just shrug off 10 mil compensation, 2 seasons previous the team had done very well, some genuine quality players on the pitch. You'd need to have an exceptional lack of confidence in the man to axe him. But if you did watch us play, it was clear as day how absolutely untenable his position was. Never thought I'd see players in the Royal Blue Jersey down tools at Goodison Park, but that is what happened.

Quite an inditement on the RM era, but as he made no significant, long-term contributions to the club's squad, ethos, or infrastructure, perhaps we got away lightly?

I see words and an angle that goes with them, but no realism.

In 3 seasons we...

  • played our best ever football since the 80s
  • won more points in a season than any other PL season
  • got to two cup SFs and an extended run in Europe
...and all you can offer to counter that is a view that professional footballers wouldn't act like professional footballers, and that's down to the manager.

Then you wonder why I keep on telling you the wars over and you lost it.

Dave im honestly convinced I could win the World Cup with San Marino.

This International manager lark isnt even worthy of the name manager.

It takes a different set of skills than club management. Roberto has them. He's a top class international manager.
