Err, because it's all about " pressing " now, not slowly, slowly, sideways, backwards and start again ?
It's all about doing something with the ball at your feet. No one ever scored a goal by merely chasing after someone. Construction of moves is what football has always been about. The pressing is just donkey work to set that up. The elevation of that donkey work as an end in itself - something to be marvelled at - is ridiculous.

Thanks for putting me right Dave x

Speed the day this "pressing" malarkey goes out of style.

It is the way we used to play in school......one man on the other team has the ball and all our players went charging at him o_O

Now, I know it grew as an antidote to tiki taki as a way to stop sides "building from the back" with often slow, tedious movement up the pitch in a two steps forward one step back followed by three steps across kind of way.

But the antidote to "pressing" will surely be hoofball.

Let the other team's players come rushing at you then launch it long, over their heads to your centre forward or wingers.

Just like we used to do back in the schoolyards of Garston and Aigburth a lifetime ago

Diego Simeone seems to be doing alright with it.

I thought it was judged on what they did at other clubs too, not just at us?

The charity shield does not count by the way.

My bad, didn't really explain what I meant with my last sentence..

Instead of where I wrote - It's the only objective way to judge the quality of a manager.
Read - It's the only objective way to judge the quality of a manager's tenure. Which was the point I was trying to make :)

Objectively if your comparing managers overall then yeah you need to look at Martinez's cup win and relegation, but neither of those impact on his time at Everton which is what matters when comparing the two managers and how they did for us.

Winning matches is what football is about David.

There has to be more than that. And in any case, a consistently winning team nearly always entertains with good football, so it's a moot point.

Consistently successful teams also have a budget of hundreds of millions to attract top class players Dave so of course they can play great football. Everton playing like Barcelona was never ever going to happen with McCarthy, Jagielka and Timothy Howard in the team.
