TBH I was a little disappointed that we signed 2 CBs as it will mean Holgate is unlikely to start. But team over player and if the we bring in players that cause others to miss and its for the greater good that is life. For me as long as Silva doesn't do what every manager before him has done and pick his favourites irrespective of form. If Zouma and Mina are pulling up trees then play them. But if Holgate is outperforming he must get the nod!. He will get game time though, although defenders are often not pulled from games..

Think of the upside, less chance of Keane/Jagielka playing many games. Holgate will get game time - like previously stated by poster above, I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Zouma/Mina slot in ahead of him every week.

The fact he has been given the number 2 shirt implies to me that he is seen as the long term answer. He will get plenty of game time once he is deemed fully fit.

For the first time in years I am happy we have a decent amount of centre backs available of a decent age and a good blend of styles.

Jagielka 36
Keane 25
Mina 23
Zouma 23
Holgate 21
Gibson 18
Feeney 19

That position could be sorted for the next decade.

Ideally I'd like Gibson/Feeney out of loan this year or next to get some experience. I really rate both of them.

Funny how with Jags out Keane becomes the senior centre-back. I see him as the least likely to organise the defence. Hopefully the responsibility brings the best out of him.

Mason love, this is the biggest chance you'll get to make that position your own. If you poo up over the next few games you might not get the chance again, as Zooms and Mina could solidify a partnership, and then we could go after Zooms end of the season to try and make it permanent.
