He does make the odd mistake but he's young and still developing. I'd rather have him in than jags or keane (who did really well yesterday) as he's got a bit of recovery pace and can atleast attempt to make up for a mistake. Keane and jags make countless mistakes per game, in jags case he's not worth the punt, he's 35 so it's not like him playing himself into any form (which looks impossible anyway) will increase his value.
We can either choose an old bloke who makes mistakes and struggles to recover because his legs are kaput or a young bloke who makes mistakes, will likely learn from them and improve as a player, plus he's got some pace so has more opportunity to recover.
Fair enough he was carrying an injury yesterday but again that highlights the issue with this fascination of signing players on deadline day. We were crying out for cbs, we did well in the window, but surely we could have secured zouma at least on a loan a bit earlier in the window knowing holgate was injured?
None of this is a dig at jags, he's been a quality player for us and it's not his issue he is still being played at this level at his age. It's quite sad to see the decline over the last year or two. The position has been resourced better but it's a failing in my eyes that we went into the first game of the season with the same diabolical cb pairing as last season.
