2020/21 Mason Holgate

Seems to have an attitude lately thinking that he's better than he really is.

There was a piece in The Athletic about a training regime him and DCL had been doing for the last year or two. Optional stuff that most players don't do. From reading the article, DCL's motives seemed to be about becoming a better footballer. Holgate's was to "get more girls." It was sort of a joke, but I thought it was weird.

He's been quite bad recently. I really do hope it's just a case of rustiness after his long lay off, rather than a mentality issue. Before his injury I thought he was our best defender, and personally I'd always rated him as having more potential than Stones.

I'm no psychologist but I think it's the opposite. He's trying to keep his confidence up because he's not playing well. Clearly it's not working and he needs to go back to basics.

You could well be right mate, it's his body language for me, just seems to strut around the pitch chest out, that could be what you're pointing to though I suspect.

Fake hardman, best known for throwing Firminho over advertising boards whilst getting the run around in a derby, not commanding enough as a centre back, poor distribution, and not good enough for right back.

He will be shown the door when Braithwaite comes back from his loan. At best he's a back up right back....

Not reactionary by me either after tonight. Just not good enough

Agree on all points.

Such short-termism with footie fans. Lad was immense last season with a consistent run of games. He missed a large chunk of this season with injury and now has flitted in and out of the team at RB and CB with different combinations all over. He was pretty poor tonight but he’s certainly had more great games than bad ones. Maybe he’s not as good as the others for a start now but he’s certainly good enough to be in this squad.

Should start at right back, but not at CB for the rest of the season. Injuries dependant of course. But he is neither a right back or CB, in fact I'm struggling to think of a comparable player which is odd.

One thing that I can assure you I am not being knee jerk about is that he is nowhere near good enough on the ball. It has been a problem for most his time here.

And he's never ever a fullback so let's bin that off sooner than later. If we don't trust Coleman, and maybe we shouldn't, put Godfrey out there.

I said it a while ago, he was only "amazing" last season because he was better than the utterly appalling pair of Keane and Mina. Keane especially has improved on last season, while Mina has his good days and bad days, much like Mason. Neither of the latter two would get a game for anybody above or around us in the table. I'd suggest Mason spends less time getting stripes shaved into his eyebrows and start getting the basics right on the field as he's definitely off form right now. Thinks he's a lot better than he is.
