Another decent game but a stroll. None of the back three did anything wrong and were solid but exactly this. They were marking 1 player at most. Just no reason for the back three, wasn’t necessary and an extra body in midfield surely better set up.

Can see why he starts with it after last game but… To sit there and watch it and not change it for the whole 90 minutes is really quite mind boggling.

Well, only if none of those things would have happened if we’d set up with a back four.

Even this is a major improvement for them. Most of the season we’ve had players doing suicidal back passes, getting caught on the ball as the last man, ducking under crosses, handballs and stupid fouls in the penalty area, not blocking crosses. Just last game the entire back line got undone by one bouncing ball down the middle of the pitch.

So unfortunately whilst this is the norm for most teams, any defensive set up that results in these defenders not doing anything wrong for 90 minutes is probably a decent one.

He's another who's been better under Lampard. Not brilliant but better.

I think Holgate has really stepped up during this relegation run in. Credit where it is due.
