Mason Holgate

Think this lad is reaping the benefits of his early season experience, so many back up positions need filling this lad will be around the first team all next season.

Stones looked an excellent defender at times remember. Nothing got past those telescopic legs for a period of time. But yes, hopefully Holgate is a better defender. The signs are very positive.

He has blistering pace which Stones never had. To be a top centre back it helps if you are very strong or very quick. Holgate looks to have Yobo level pace. Even Rashford didn't get a sniff against him. If he works on his upper body strength he will be a top player.

Holgate looks stronger defensively than Stones did but Stones looked so much better as a ball player.
Holgate has everything in his locker, but he really does struggle with his decision making on the ball. At his best, Stones was top quality with the ball at his feet. He could easily pass for a central midfielder whereas Holgate has to work at that area of his game.

Bit of revisionism on Stones going on here. From the very first time I saw Stones I thought he had everything you need to be one of the worlds best centre halves. He's stagnated a bit (due to poor management in my opinion) but I won't be surprised if he still goes on to be one of the best around.

As far as Holgate's concerned, I'm on the fence a bit. A couple of times I've thought he looks good, but - like Galloway before him - I feel like some people are jumping the gun massively by assuming he's going to be really good in a position they've never actually seen him play.

great defender but hasn't got the crossing ability to be a full back ( full time ), deffo a CB in the future, although he easily matches coleman defensively he hasn't got a tenth the impact coleman has going forward
You would think Coleman was the greatest attacking right back that's ever lived, the way some are going on.
Coleman delivers about 3 decent crosses in 10. His final ball is nothing special.

If we played a team tomorrow with a brilliant left winger. I'd play Holgate every day of the week
