Hope so mate, you have a good academy and things like sell on fees will hopefully give you a windfall now and then that keeps up its quality.

We've got another decent crop coming through too, the only thing is, they're too good for us, we've a 23 year old keeper who's mustard, two 18 year old left back in first team squad one is our regular left back, we've a right back at 17 who's going to be a world beater, Holgate as left who would have been our central defender alongside stonesy had we kept him. We could have had a fantastic defensive unit next season but we just can't keep them long enough to build anything of any note, our academy is too good for our own good of late.

Well that's three signings done. West Ham's Kevin Mirallas, Tottenham's James McCarthy and now Barnsley's Mason Holgate. Let's hope Martinez can sign Chelsea's John Stones. lol

Hope the Holgate does well. He's joining the golden generation according to Martinez.

When you look at S'ton on the one hand it is great they are now in the Europa but on the other you look at the team they could have had if they hadn't sold all their academy kids and feel kinda sad.

I know it has always been that way to an extent but modern football seems to have made it worse unfortunately.

A Wednesday fan at work day after Ross Barkley made his debut for them and said this lad will be class, he'll be a 20 million pound player one day, he's not come to us because he's not going to be good enough, just because our local club aren't premier league clubs it doesn't mean we can't judge players, we see Chambers, Jenkinson, Jones, Gayle, and others before premier league supporting fans and we can tell if they'll be any good or not, Bale played at the same level as us in his first season for Southampton we all knew he'd be a good un way before them who only watch match of the day.

Don't listen to them mate. I'd have to say I'd trust a "lower leagues" fans judgement of a player over a lot of the beauts who support top 4 teams and play Fifa anyday. Often Lower league fans will go to the match more and be proper football people. Your input is very welcome. I can only apologise we have taken two of your young players off you. It was galling seeing Jeffers, Ball and then Rooney leave. You're a lot more civil than I'd have been!

Nope. I just don't see any evidence for it. There is a lot more talk about it but in terms of players on the pitch not so much. A few sub appearances from Browning and Galloway in due to injury.

That said it is encouraging that he is talking up the youth prospects.

To be fair, in our last pre season game we had something daft like 7 or 8 youth team graduates playing. I think Martinez wants to play them, but whether they are ready or not is another matter.

It is bitter sweet for us as fans though, because other clubs are seeing what we're doing with our own youngsters and trusting us with theirs, at the minute we have Joe Rothwell & Ben Pearson on loan From Manchester United and Dan Crowley from Arsenal, all 3 are quality footballers, and I'm convinced the reason we've got them because we're playing kids and developing them in the right way, at a average age of just 21 we have youngest first team squad in the country, so as you can guess we're full of mistakes as a team but we're watching some fantastic footballers down Oakwell at the moment, some real quality in the squad, but we'll not have them long enough to amount to anything.
